OPSEC, OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmust importance. Please take the time to read the Opsec and Community Guidelines. A quick note here: Last Names are never allowed on this site. If it is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended. First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but discouraged as their RDC's read this site and can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture.

I am back on the grid! My son has always wanted to b a pilot. He was in AFJROTC for the first 2 years of high school. He has horrible vision & can't qualify. He moved schools & there was no jrotc there. His dad has been unemployed for the past 2 years & told him he needed to join the military to get a head. Dad said if he had been in the military or had a college degree (like me & his wife) he would been able to get a job easier. Dad liked the navy best for the traveling. My son wanted AF since that's what he knew but the waiting list would have Aug just to get to MEPS the first time! So, all 4 of his parents went to the navy recruiters office 2 days before he turned 18 & 1 week before graduation & said "he's all.yours"

navymom:  Maybe he meant that 2 were asmoed (setback?)?  No, they can't just quit...but sometimes the SRs left in the division don't get the full story.  And some also are released for different reasons. There may be more leaving the group, and they most likely will get some new ones who had been setback from their ealier PIR groups and are now ready to continue training.

I got a two sentence letter....saying he misses me and he cannot write a full letter for another two weeks.....nothing about how he is doing.....what does it mean that two dropped.....they dropped out of bootcamp cuz they couldn't do it???  I didn't think you could do that??

Comment by diannep on November 27, 2011 at 8:59am

Good morning, all.

Hey, when the letters do come into that mailbox, better warn your neighbors that there will be lots of HAPPY DANCING going on around the mailbox. If this is normally not part of your personality, you may get some pretty wild looks!  HA!  It is a great feeling to find that letter in there.  Enjoy it while it lasts...it ends after bootcamp when they are back to texting and emailing again!

I will be posting this occassionally in the beginning weeks of the group. Thank you!

Community Guidelines and OPSEC

Hello Everyone.

Safety for your SR (future Sailor) and you!

Sailors LAST names are NOT allowed anywhere on this site. If your last name is different from your sailors it is still not recommended.

FIRST names ARE allowed but I, and some of the other “veteran” moms, will most often advise you not to use them. This is a public forum and anyone can read the posts-they do not have to be a member (if the group is set to private, the public cannot read but all N4M members can-so all you have to do is join) While they use their last names in BC (in fact they don't usually, if ever, find out each other’s first names until the end of BC), the RDC's know who they are and can then, with the right amount of info, link them up to you. So, let’s say you use your last name in your N4M name, post a picture of your SR...easy to match up...and so on.

Why does that matter? Your SR's are trying to get through BC with as little undue attention as possible. "Fly under the radar", so to speak. There have been reports from moms of their recruits being matched up with them. Some are just identified…some get IT (Intensive Training), I am guessing this depends on WHAT is posted…I know of one mom who said that her son had to do 5 push-ups just for every time she posted!

The MOST important reason for being discreet is OPSEC-Operational Security. This is a way of life for us now. It will be for your Sailors career and for some of them, even more so, depending on their individual security clearance. Some moms have mentioned that even today after years they do not know EXACTLY what their sailor does.

SPECOPS...definitely need to be VERY careful.

I have added the links to the Meet and Greets that are hosted by Sarge and the Ramada.

Sarge also provides the best taxi service around (this is how we originally came to know him...he recently started doing his own meet and greet). He goes above and beyond the call of duty for the families and always helps the Sailors.

Old Sarge:

Here's a quick rundown of both Meet and Greets:

Sarge:

5-10 pm at the Sundance Saloon.

FREE transportation from Springhill Suites, Marriot Courtyard, Holiday Inn Express, Residence Inn, Candlewood Suites and Crossland. All other local hotels for a modest fee.

Guest Speaker from the Base to provide info on where to eat, things to do, how to save $$.

FREE food starting at 7 PM….they also have a menu if you want to order something.

Sarge has lived in the area for over 30 years and knows it well.

Sarge has arranged with his friend Nick at Trattoria-Pomigliano in Libertyville for a FREE meal – ANYTHING they want – for your Sailor.

There is a DJ.

Plus, Sarge goes above and beyond the “call of duty” to help Sailors and their families. (He is the “go to” guy for Taxi (shuttle) service. Prices are great and again does more than he has too!)

Ramada:

6-8 pm at the Ramada.

Finger foods – Chips and salsa, veggies and dip, egg rolls, meatballs, maybe another and it could change. (This is what they had when I went. Sarge was not doing a Meet and Greet then)

Bar – or you can bring in your own soft drink or water. Those staying at the Ramada get a voucher for to free drinks.

Hostess provides a name tag and will come in and greet everyone and ask if anyone would like to speak.

BOTH events are open to everyone. There will be people there that know nothing about N4M’s. Invite them!

wow rexy barby and snick, that is awesome that they already knew what they wanted for the most part.  My son did a few years at community college and worked for awhile.  Things just were not coming along as nicely as he had hoped.  I had no idea he was even thinking about joining.  But he was very excited and anxious.  He did not like having to wait 8 months. Had some serious ants in his pants to get started! :)

Jacqueline-rn,  I know exactly how you feel.  As I said before I feel like I am stalkin the mailman.  My hubby has joked that he will put a chair beside the mailbox so I can be close by.
