I agree with Betsy...I think they are all shell-shocked in the beginning, but they do start to adjust. Just remember, if you get a letter where they are unhappy, by the time it arrives, they are probably much better! It is an emotional rollercoaster for them and you too!
Shmommy, lol probably was. But remember that the letter was sent days before now, so I'm sure he is probably settling in pretty well.
I got the form letter today... his note on the back sounds like he's a little shell shocked...
Oooo Barb...going to check my mailbox now....
Snick
everyone!
Snicker, Here's another veteran voting for flying into Milwaukee if you can. We did that and it was a piece of cake driving to GL. It's a very easy drive that took us about 45 minutes and that was during Wed. afternoon rush hour traffic.
barbydahlzz, Woohoo! What a wonderful gift right before Thanksgiving.
I GOT MY LETTER!!!!! OMG... im soooooo happy... I cried when i saw it in the mailbox.. read it a million times... he talks about his RDCs and the jobs he has to do .one job he said he's the Marching CPO..(helps with marching technique). that wasnt a job when i went to boot...but i had to teach my fellow shipmates how to march also funny . also said he can make his bunk and his bunkmates bunk up in 12 minutes.... jeez he NEVER made it at home.. hahahhaha OH MOMS... ITS SOOOO AWESOME...
@ kensmom.... No, hes going to be a Sonar Tech( surface) STG.. but maybe they will be in class together.. and hang out when they get to San Diego.. YAY
@barbydahlzz...I saw you say that your son is doing ATT at GL and A school in San Diego! So is my son! Ken is rated as a Mineman (MN) is your son also??
Snickerdoo....: It took us about 5-10 minutes to get to RTC from Residence. Close. We liked the hotel. I too think arriving a day early is a good thing to allow for any weather delays. My vote is also for Milwaukee. Check out Southwest rates...they have changeable tickets at no extra charge and first 2 bags ship for free. They fly into Milwaukee and also Chicago-Midway (furthest airport from RTC and lots of Chicago traffic). I would book back on Sunday just in case your sailor doesn't fly out until Sunday. The sailors fly out of the Chicago airports.
barby: He will probably move over to GL base right after PIR. Takes about 3-5 hours to move. Make sure he has a phone card. He will call you when done, you pick him up at A School, and he will have liberty until the evening. Then he should have daytime liberty during the weekend. This is all up to GL A School, but that is usually the way it happens.
