Snickers, trust me do as Lala says fly into Milwaukee!!!! Mo betta and much easier.

I think it is a great idea to go a day earlier especially in the winter. There were families who didn't make it to PIR last year because of flight cancellations. It was very sad, especially for the Sailors who didn't know where their family was. We usually suggest flying into Milwaukee. Southwest normally has some of the best rates when you consider all the extra fees other airlines charge. The first checked bag is free and they do not have a change fee should you need to change your flight. They are also about the same distance (driving time) as Ohare because there is less traffic problems.

Ship 11   Division 038     Graduation   Jan. 13, 2012

I am flying from California.    When do people really arrive.   I am seriously thinking I should leave California on Wednesday...January who knows..I could get stranded at the airport or flight cancelled.    Thinking I would fly back home on Sunday..what are others doing?

I am not even sure which airport to fly into that would be the easiest and closest to the Training Center.  We are staying at the Marriot just a few minutes from RTC.

Only when using a pay phone but really when else would you need one?

Comment by kev323 on November 23, 2011 at 10:36am

Thanks everyone! Sounds like those cards are a rip off.

Comment by Betsy, mom of Stennis sailor on November 23, 2011 at 10:30am

Kev, make sure that you activate your SR's calling card before you send it.  It will save time for your SR.

I hope everyone has a great day. I bet this site will be a little quiet. I know I will be cooking most of the day. Making Pecan Pralines, fudge, and Pumpkin Pie that is as soon as I finish up some ribbon orders and get them in the mail :-D

FYI, if you go to the post office to mail your letters to your Sailor you may want to check their holiday hours. Our local post office closes at 2pm today.

Have a great day Navy Family!!!

Good Morning All....

Kev ... i sent a $30 card..

My SR is staying at Great Lakes for ATT school before he heads off to San Diego for A school (some electronics class he has to take) will he have liberty all weekend of PIR???

Comment by Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons on November 23, 2011 at 10:21am

I got an ATT calling card and I think it was around $30 for 500 min. You may be able to find a better deal. Just look at the fine print. They all charge a fee for making calls from a pay phone and it usually uses about 30 min worth of call every time you make a call from a pay phone. So if they call and you don't answer and they call a different number and talk to dad for 10 min and then call you back they have already used 100 minutes for a 10 min call. I would get as many minutes as you can and some of them are re-loadable with more minutes.
