Made my reservations for PIR! Staying at the Navy Lodge. I am sooo excited!
Rexy you are so lucky a phone call from your SR?! Yes Ladies don't send your SR's any goodie care packages over x-mas, they will be brutalized over it..lol. I still did not get a "real" letter yet. :(
I did stay at the Navy Lodge and would stay there again unless I needed a bigger suite. It is hard to beat $65.00 for a kitchenette with 2 queen beds :-) I think when go to PIR for my son I need to take a shuttle so I will have the experience of driving and taking the shuttle so then I will know which one was really better lol.
navymomfromCT: I think MSmom would like for those in Div 37 to join her discussion group up top for Div 37. A good place to get to know one another, but stay on this board too for info.
navymomfromCT: Lala stayed at Navy Lodge. Enjoyed it. They also give their guests a pass to shop at one of the smaller NEXES (without your sailor). It is close to the base, although there is no PIR shuttle. She drove to PIR and said it was not a problem.
gmansmom: The writing thing is so funny! I looked at my son's lfirst etter (he was there in late 2009) and thought: Who wrote that? I never asked them what they were threatened with if they didn't print well, but each letter was addressed in very nice print.
gmansmom: Did you mean a big PACKAGE or a large envelope of letters? They will be made to open anything large like that in front of the RDCs but if they are just letters in an envelope, that should be ok. Just remember...you don't want to send anything that draws attention to your SR....no musical cards, no colored envelopes, nothing too thick. Some RDCs can really lay into them about things like that...others don't mind. Just better to not take chances!
And....I know it is holiday time...but ladies...do NOT mail them any care packages whatsoever! My son received one from TX. To this day, we have no idea who sent it (came from a vendor). It was filled with Christmas goodies (he was at bc this time 2 yrs ago). He was grilled by the RDCs about who he knew in TX. No one! They made him open it and of course, he couldn't have any of it. He told me later, he laughed because later on, he saw the RDCs in their office enjoying the goodies!
whoops, thats for you gmansmom. Shall we send the Ghost of Christmas Manners over for a little chat?
Dont let this get you down. Keep those letters flowin!
MS mom...did you get your form letter....
