I just checked the 2013 PIR group that graduated the Friday before Martin Luther King Day and it looks like the schedule was regular:  Sailors flying out on Saturday for out of state A schools and Great Lakes' A school Sailors' liberty ending on Sunday evening~~

*and Monday too

bookofacts:  No, he most likely will be flying out the day after PIR.    However, since this is Martin Luther King weekend, and that Monday is a federal holiday, it is possible that some of the sailors flying out won't leave until Sunday.  No way to know until you see your sailors after PIR as they won't find out until right before PIR.  So best to plan your trip to stay at least through Sunday.  For those with sailors staying in GL for A School, then families who can do it should stay through Monday as those sailors will have Liberty all through the weekend and Monday time (again Daytime).

He will get Liberty after PIR with them on Friday, then may be bussed later that night to wait for Saturday flights....they can meet him at the airport in the wee hours of Sat. morning and wait with him---taking ID they will be able to get an airlines gate pass to wait at the gate until departure...if he isn't flying out until Sunday, he will have Liberty on Saturday with them as well.  There are no overnights with the new sailors....only Daytime Liberty.

I'm trying to help my son's in-laws arrange travel plans for the PIR. They'll be driving from California with their daughter (his wife). She is asking about Liberty weekend. Does he get to leave with them Friday and stay with them until he leaves for A school? His A school is in Maryland. I directed them to this site. Would appreciate further info. (Previous info super helpful. I get that he may have to be up and out early any morning after the PIR)...just trying to determine if they'll want to book more than one room for the weekend.

What is required for proof of insurance when renting a car.  Our current insurance and our credit card used to rent the car both cover the rental vehicle but what will be needed as proof to get on base for PIR?

Stacey:  We suggest on holiday weekends like this that you plan to stay until at least later on Sunday.  Highly unlikely they will fly out on Monday, busy travel day.  But it is always possible that some could fly out on Sunday, so try to allow for that in your travel plans.  You don't want to miss any Liberty with your new sailor!
