Good afternoon. I am waiting to join the group of people awaiting a 01/16 PIR. I did not know about this group until yesterday when I googled, "What to send your recruit for Christmas" So thankful for the support. I learned how to get phone cards, and letter-writing ideas....you all must already know how difficult it is to find Christmas cards without glitter! Tried not to end up a Christmas puddle in the Hallmark store.
FTLW, based on a conversation with my SR, as well as comments posted within this group, it sounds like this training group has three or four push divisions (I've seen 910 and 062 referenced for sure). Does this sound right? My SR stated he's in a push division, yet he arrived 11/17, so definitely not there a shorter amount of time. He said he thought it had something to do with the holidays and said he was in P-days more than a week.
Another question I have relates to those flying out for A school. It's been stated that they usually head to the airport late Friday night. I assume their flights, though, are on Saturday. Do families typically spend the entire overnight time at the airport with their sailor? I'm trying to get an idea in my head of how to plan for this, as I'll have an 8 year old with me. I want to spend as much time as possible with my SR, yet I don't want the time to turn into a nightmare due to an overly tired, miserable little one. Also, PIR weekend falls on MLK weekend, so we'll likely not drive home until Monday. As such, after my SR flies out, I think we'll try to get in a visit to Chicago, whether that be later Saturday or on Sunday. I just have no understanding of what is involved with the visiting time at the airport.
Stacey - Yes, his Division will graduate on time. The Push Divisions are usually formed last within the TG. It is usually made up of Recruits that have been waiting for more to arrive to fill the Division. The ones that help fill it are "pushed" in a sense as there P-Days will be shorter. So they may have to do some of that during their Training days. They hustle a bit more. They are also at BC for a shorter time because of this . Maybe 7 1/2 weeks rather than 8 1/2. :-)
While Recruits are at BC for 8+ weeks only six of those are actual Training Weeks. The other two weeks consist of P-Days, Battlestations, and PIR.

..and.....those flying out will do so most likely the day after PIR....bussing to the airports very late on PIR night. Families can meet them at the airports, and with ID, get an airlines pass to wait with them until departure.
