Thanks navygirlfiend1993! I wonder if these means I will get a phone call earlier too.
I got the form letter today! My son left this past Monday on the 24th and I already received the letter. I have not received the box yet. He is Ship 13 Div 066. Is it normal to get the form letter so quick? It hasn't even been a week.
Sorry! I see that CatMom had already posted the hotels recommended! Didn't see that, but now you have two votes!
navygirlfriend: Yes, Sarge's team of drivers can drive you at any time during the night. It is still more economical to rent a car for any who can do that. The shuttle fares can add up.
April: Southwest Airlines flies into Milwaukee also.....and it is usually cheaper into Milwaukee (45 min drive to GL which is closer than the hour+ from Midway to GL). Cheaper car rental also.....
Southwest Airlines has no change fee if your SR is delayed in training, and 2 bags check for free. Good deal!
Hotels recommended by others on this site have been:
Navy Lodge (mile or so from base)
Springhill Suites, Courtyard, Holiday Inn Express, Residence Inn, all close to each other (4-5 miles from RTC) and close to Sarge's MeetandGreet held for you all the night before PIR. Be sure to call these 4 hotels directly and ask for the Navy Graduation discount....they hold some rooms at that rate.
When I booked at the Navy Lodge yesterday - they told me they no longer have the shuttle, and you would have to call someone else to take you and it was 3.00 each way
navygirlfriend1993,
Yes, Sarge can take you to the airports at that time. Perhaps you can share the ride with other Navy families going to the same airport to split the costs? The taxis are actually minivans. Are the parents of your SR also attending PIR? You won't know which hotel your SR boyfriend is flying out of till after Battlestations.
Southwest also flies into Milwaukee and that airport is about 45 minutes away with an easy drive and cheaper car rental. Two bags checked for free and no change fees if plans change--just pay the difference if airfare has changed.
As far as the favorite hotels besides the Navy Lodge and Springhill Suites, they are Courtyard Marriot, Holiday Inn Express, and Residence Inn, all in Waukegan/Gurnee like Springhill, about 10 minutes away from RTC. Call them direct and ask for the Navy Graduation rate. No deposits needed for any of the hotels and can cancel up to the day of your reservation by 6:00 pm.
We suggest Sarge's Meet & Greet which is in the same area as the above hotels at the Sundance Saloon and its totally family and kid friendly, since it is closed to the public during the Meet & Greet. When it shows up in the Events area on the lower left of this page, RSVP by clicking on it respond Will Attend, then put in how many in your party in the Comments section.
Yep, the Ramada is in a very bad area of town and has very mixed reviews on TripAdvisor and other hotel sites. It's meet & greet is very lowkey.
