The closer we get to PIR, the more questions I have. Most of them have been answered here along the way (big thank you to the experienced mom's helping here) but I still have a few more.

I will coming with my parents and my dad is in a wheel chair. He can walk short distances if he needs to. I understand there is a handicapped area (I was told it is a platform) for him to sit, but he can only have one person with him. What is that area like? Is it farther away, up top, on the side? He also doesn't see very well so we are trying to decide if we should just all sit together closer to my son's division. I'm trying to get the lay of the land to help us decide what to do.
Also, if we go super early as the doors open to get a front row seat for my dad, we are thinking that he won't be able to sit there that long and we were thinking of just sending my husband early to save seats and we would join him later. I'm thinking seat saving isn't going to be allowed. Does any one know about that?
One last question... Someone said division 065 moms should keep their phones close the morning of the 15th. That is our travel day. If for some reason that phone call isn't what we want to hear, will we at least be able to see him? It's such short notice for changing travel plans.
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer us. :)

Too funny, FTLW...I was your BC Mama!  Hard to believe that I have been helping out here since Feb 2010!  Love doing it....Jessica and I started in the same PIR group (but then my son was delayed a week) and she was very helpful to me.  She is the one who suggested I stay on the PIR groups after graduation to help along with her.  She was such a leader for me....amazing since she was just a Bootcamp mom like the rest of us, but such a go getter.  I have tried to reach her now several times....but don't believe she is on here anymore.  She had some health issues.....so I sure hope she is ok....I will forever be grateful for her kindness and mentoring!  :-)

AprilB:  Be sure to contact Sarge for your trip from Navy Lodge to PIR.  You can sign up for this at his MeetandGreet or you can email him:  johnspadaro@att.net  or text/call him:

He runs a great shuttle service for those up for PIR weekend.

Alicia,

Oh, that's good your first Sailor gave you the Great Lakes A school experience!

With this one flying out, he may still want to go back to his barracks to get his wallet and come right back.  My Sailor daughter did that. She came back with Division t-shirts to surprise her sister and me with, along with getting her wallet.  Met us at the NEX, then we called Sarge to make sure we caught one of his shuttles.  There were other shuttles in the lot to the right of the NEX trying to get our attention.  My Sailor rode Sarge's shuttle back to our hotel for free~~

Alicia - you are very welcome! I am glad the weather is looking better and I hope that it holds. I am sure everything will work out just fine:-)

Yes, I felt very fortunate thank you :-)

I also was so glad for diannep, LaLa and JessicaBSailorMom who were my veteran PIR group Moms (yes, diannep was my BC momma!) who advised me that it could happen and to book through until late Sunday or Monday if I could afford it. I just figured that if it didn't happen I would sight see or just plain rest!

It hasn't happened since (2011) on Memorial Day weekend it seems :-( We got lucky. It was a smaller PIR group too, 7 Divisions.

Just got a letter from my son... Everyone who has a child in div 065 keep your phones glued to you on the morning of the 15th...

One week!!  I can't wait to see everyone at the meet and greet.  We will be taking a cab from Navy Lodge - anyone want to share a cab ride?

FTLW, thank you for the clarification. How nice for you to have had extra time with your son during PIR weekend. I'm really bummed about the limited time I'll have with my son, but also grateful that we are able to make the trip (and even more grateful that it appears the weather should take a turn for the better since we're driving). Hopefully, I'll get the "I'm a sailor" call and can revise my instructions about the airport card. Thank you, again.

Thank you for pointing that out Alicia. I did not read that part of the creator of the Flight Info Cards post.

I think I will just make a while new one instead.

I think the new Sailors are packed before PIR. Mostly anyways. Their Seabags should be ready to go as there is a lot in them. It would just be the minor stuff. I'll have to ask my son if they even hit their racks that night before boarding the busses for the AP.

As far as Liberty directly after PIR for those who fly out, unfortunately it can vary.

The most common is that they are on Liberty directly after PIR and ready to leave with you immediately. If you sent him a Flight Info card then he can stow it in a pocket of his peacoat I hope.

I have read over the years though that some have been delayed for various reasons. The time frame is unpredictable. From a half hour to a couple of hours.

There have also been occassions where newly graduated Sailors have had Liberty interrupted by having to return to RTC to stand watch.  I'm not telling you this to be a big bummer but to be prepared.

I haven't seen much of it happening lately but we only represent about 9% to 10% of the families of a PIR.

Mine was ready to go directly after PIR. BUT, we had a Thursday PIR ( it was Memorial Day weekend) and so he did not fly out until Sunday. LaLa did not have the info card then but I had been advised to ask him to write it down. We had some "give" on this though because of the extra Liberty. We received two extra days with him. He had watch on Saturday which interrupted our Liberty. So we were able to go to Ricky Heaven and have dinner with him there for the last two hours if it.
