OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

bikerbabe:  Absolutely!  Stay here until you are confirmed by the form letter or find you are in the next PIR group!  :-)

Welcome back, Sharon (CTI and Nuke Mom) !

bikerbabe:  The 900 divisions are the 'performing' divisions.  They perform in 2 other PIRs in addition to their own.  Some are drill team, choir, musicians.  Others do administrative duties....such as tending to the VIPs at the PIR ceremony (which means behind the scenes work many times).  They usually have high ASVAB scores because they will have to keep up with their training and be practicing too, so they want those who might be able to handle all of the extra work well.

Bikerbabe55 - welcome, I bet tour letter is right behind the box, mine was. I wanted my husband to get a hold of the recruiter, we couldn't catch them, so thank goodness the box showed!

skeeter- welcome! Congrats on the box & letter! My SR is in the 800 division too. I felt like I knew he was ok, after going cold turkey w/ him leaving, I was desperate to know something. I am loving all the support we have in this group!

Anchor6- congrats on getting the letter! I know exactly how you feel, my husband told me I had to calm down or I might tear it. I was crying, my hands were shaking, I felt like he was ok, it was going to be ok.

Hello all!  I am here to support my sister through her journey of becoming a Navy Mom.  My nephew is on his way to becoming the next sailor in our family!

It's amazing how time has flown.... I went through this journey myself over two years ago.  My daughter is a CTN and I am a PROUD NAVY MOM!!  I definitely remember the emotional roller coaster you have all just hopped on!....and words can not express the emotion you will feel the day those doors rise at PIR!!  Embrace your journey...and the friends you make in this group. It's the best place to be for information and a shoulder to lean on!

thank you! I've never been so happy to get a box of dirty clothes and a pair of smelly running shoes in my life!! She is in a 900 div but I have no Idea why or what that means. Anybody going to San Antonio for A School after PIR?
