OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Have not heard yet from my son in div 062, but I'm going under th premise "no news is good news".  I'll be packing my bag this afternoon for tomorrow mornings flight.

ok taking the plunge.... booking and paying the rental car for tonight!!! no turning back...whatever the outcome....I will take it as another vacation! I will pack 2 bottles of wine!! just in case!! I hope it will be to celebrate not to drown my ex's whinning... lol

Comment by Kirikala on January 15, 2014 at 2:05pm

Just when it can't get worse... Our daughter is having emergency surgery. Now my husband and I have to split our trip. One staying and one going. Trying my hardest to not go over the edge. Lord, please provide a spirit of peace.

Comment by diannep on January 15, 2014 at 1:46pm

travsproudmom:  Surely "someone" will call this afternoon???  PLEASE!!!  HA!  Go on the "no news is good news" theory (as long as a person didn't get the call that they didn't pass their final PFA, in which case that person has to wait for another call from their SR saying they passed in order to proceed to PIR).

Comment by diannep on January 15, 2014 at 1:44pm

Catherine:  This morning would be his only chance to pass and be at PIR---if he doesn't pass, he will stay in FIT and continue to try (read my post below to Proud Sailor Mom).  I'm hoping that with it so close to PIR, he can call you today if he passes it.  If he does, he will do BattleStations tonight.  Sometimes they can't call until after BattleStations, so that wouldn't be until tomorrow.  I know it puts families in such a quandrey when things like this happen last minute.  We will be praying for all of those in this group caught up in this situation last minute.

Comment by travsproudmom on January 15, 2014 at 1:37pm

Any word on 64?  Last night?  Tonight?  Ooyie, this is aging me by the minute. Oh well, I'm leaving tonight either way.  See yall tomorrow night at Sarge's!

And Proud Sailor Mom, she WILL make it.  Thinking of you....

Comment by diannep on January 15, 2014 at 1:36pm

TylersMom:  I'm so sorry about all of this.  First of all, on the hotel reservations, did you book directly with the hotel?  If so, you should be able to cancel that most likely up to the day of arrival with no penalty.  If you booked through a travel discount service, not sure how that would work.  But hope you don't cancel yet...

The toughest requirements/qualifications are put on the Spec Ops group.  Sadly, there is really nothing that you can do and they won't release info to you, only to your son.  If he fights this, then he can sign a form giving you permission to be aware of what is going on (but it is still a hard process getting answers).  There is a Spec Ops veteran on here who may be able to give you some answers....here is her link.  Please message her:

http://navyformoms.com/profile/sjerseytina

Just friend request her....put in the message on the friend request that N4Moms veteran diannep asked you to contact her.  Hopefully she can give you some answers.

Hang in there...I hope that he will select something else to work in if his choice is that or discharge and he wants to stay in the Navy.  Hopefully he could then go into Spec Ops at another time, if he is medically cleared.

Comment by Catherine25 on January 15, 2014 at 1:32pm

diannep- will we get a call if they pass the test? My husband called yesterday to say he wouldn't be graduating unless he passed the swim test today but never told me if he would call to say he did or if he would go straight to BS
