Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Comment by Nadia on January 14, 2014 at 2:21pm: PoodleLady we are also from Florida but my husband has driven in snow before. My SR stays in GL for A school so we rented a car. Our return flight isn't until Monday so it would be too many days without one. As long as you take it slow you should be ok to drive but I understand your concern.

Comment by ⚓ darsatm ⚓ on January 14, 2014 at 2:06pm: here's my 2cents poodlelady as we didn't want to take any chances with our safety driving in the snow we went with Sarge as our SR was leaving for A school the next morning and Sarge was the best at getting us to the airport and then back to our hotel once he shipped out.We didn't want any additional stress.

Comment by Chelle15187 on January 14, 2014 at 2:02pm: I looked at the weather and we shouldnt have to worry about snow this weekend the chances of snow were only 10%. I am not sure about the rds in IL as I live in PA but the snow isnt bad to drive in as long as you take it slow.

Comment by PoodleLady on January 14, 2014 at 1:56pm: Need advice from some of my Northern Friends . . .Use Sarge or rent a car at the airport? The car rental will be way less expensive, however we have never driven in snow! (Doesn't happen in Florida!). Sarge charges $160 round trip whereas a rental car is less than $60.00 for the time we are there.

How difficult is it to drive in snow? Do we need to worry about slippery ice? Do they keep the highways and main road clear?

Comment by diannep on January 14, 2014 at 1:34pm: Dana: If your sailor has a personal FB page (from before the Navy), they may post to friends/family on there since they may get to use the computers after BattleStations before they can get to the phones to call you. So, yes, as Chelle said, I meant your sailor's personal FB page, if there IS one! :-)
