OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Merry Christmas everyone!! Thank you all for expressing my feelings today! I don't comment much but I read everyone's posts and send my prayers when needed as well as taken comfort in knowing I'm not alone! Missing my SR very much today. More sad for him than for me. We are only 45 minutes away but he may as well be in Siberia!! The days are flying by though and we will get our hugs very soon! Have a blessed day everyone <3

labradoodles:  My nephew/fiance live in Seattle and have been down here for a week...returning to Seattle tonight.  I think they have loved our very warm weather and time at the beach!  But they LOVE the Seattle life!

"Unto us, a child is born....unto us, a Son is given...."  May all have a very Merry Christmas, made more special with some phone calls today from Great Lakes hopefully!

Merry Christmas to all.  Hoping that some will be able to call today....keep those phones close!  Your SRs are enjoying a Christmas meal on base and will have some down time today...hoping that they are sharing family stories of Christmas with their shipmates and enjoying their day!

Merry Christmas to all from Arizona. This is our first year that the whole family has not been together.  Hopefully, our SRs are bonding and sharing this day.  So looking forward to Jan 17th.

Hello from Kansas! May you all have a peaceful day as you think of all that your SR is growing through. :) We are also very proud and looking forward to seeing him. We may all, as a family, actually be together at PIR and that hasn't happened in a long time.  I have been missing the unique and fun way my son connects with everyone and hope that he's able to spread some of that around at BC. Blessings to you on this day of remembering Christ's birth, Anita

Merry Christmas from San Diego! Like all of you, I woke up a little (lot) teary, also...missing my youngest son who always helps with bringing the joy into Christmas morning! It is a quiet day for us but as we reflect on what he is accomplishing, we are very proud of him and can't wait to see him in a few weeks! God bless you all and thank you for giving me a place where I can share my feelings with others who are going through it, too!

Merry Christmas everyone! I too will light my blue candle...missing my little SR so much, we've never been apart for Christmas. My hope is that we all receive the best gift ever today -hearing the voice of our SR's and knowing they are ok! My prayers are with you all, this is a very tough time for us and for our SR's..light those blue candles. I never thought I would find comfort in something so simple as lighting a blue candle.. but somehow it makes me feel closer to her and to my N4M Family too! ((((Hugs)))) to all!
