Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Make sure to read our Community Guidelines and this Navy Operations Security (OPSEC) checklist - loose lips sink ships!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Comment by Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons on December 5, 2013 at 10:02pm: For those who have kids at home missing their mom/dad/sibling etc this can be really hard for them to understand. Especially the younger ones. There are many things you can do with them that would help them understand how much longer it is until graduation. You can make a paper chain together with a link for each day remaining and let them remove a link each day so they can actually see PIR getting closer and closer. You could also put a quarter in a jar for each day and let them remove one quarter per day and at the end of each week use the quarters for a special treat like an ice cream cone or something they love. You could also use marbles in a jar for the same purpose. Anything that helps your little ones understand how much longer until that big day will help :)

I received the form letter to day with confirmation of what my SR told me during the Thanksgiving phone call. Boy, is he going to start receiving a lot of letters from family. Not sure there are words to adequately describe how invaluable this site is...God Bless

Comment by Catherine25 on December 5, 2013 at 8:03pm: Has anyone in the southern, I'm not exactly so southern I live in VA, gotten a form letter? My husband left 11/21 and I got the box 4 days later but I'm still waiting for the form letter. I do however know he is ship 09 div 66

Comment by Chelle15187 on December 5, 2013 at 7:01pm: My husband left on November 19th I have recieved a form letter, his box of things, and I recieved a call the day after thanksgiving. He is in ship 03 division 64. Would love to talk to other who have loved ones in the same group.
