~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Being military moms is a unique adventure....certainly challenging.  Some who have kids away at college will try to tell you that they know what you are feeling...but of course, it is very different in the military (bootcamp) when you have limited contact, all initiated by them when they are able to---unlike college kids who can stay in contact with you and vice versa (don't get mad at these friends, they are just trying to help! :-) ).  It is very challenging, but you are in good company here on this site...and remember...in just a few short weeks, your SRs will be sailors....on their way to A School...with contact restored!  You will learn to treasure those letters you received from them in bootcamp because chances are you won't receive letters again...once texts/emails/phone calls are started again when they are in A School!

No form letter yet. But he did tell his dad he sent it or was sending it. Not sure which one. He only arrived on the 20th so I'm trying to be patient. Normal is me knowing where he is and when he will home, this letting go is hard. Dad said he sounded good and upbeat so I'm holding onto that. Thanks to all of you for sharing your story's. Definitely makes it easier and for the reminder no news is good news.

Codysmom.... Its okay to complain, I think we are all in the same boat. Have never been unable to get ahold of our kids. This is not the norm that we are used too!! But what is normal when it comes to the Navy... Patience is something that I am learning!! I first got the info from his recruiter but then the form letter came to his dad and I got the info! Thank goodness!! Did you get the form letter?

JAmom:  A school is the generic term for where recruits go after basic.  Recruits in the nuke program go to A school in South Carolina.

I was in the Nuke Mom group for a little while, but left because the email feed was more info than I needed right now.  I'll worry about how my daughter can get to Charleston from Goose Creek in January (there's a shuttle so nothing to wory about).

ANewPhase- I read your earlier post, the Navy is going to teach us patience whether we like it or not! I am glad the recruiter was able to tell you all looked well.

Hello. Is Nuke School the same as A School? My SR signed up to be in the nuke program...

PoodleLady ~ Welcome! I am so glad I have found everyone here as well.  My SR arrived the 18th, I have not heard from him yet, but I did get the letter and box. I am learning, I think, to be more patient. This if the 1st time in his life that I have no control over what he does, I don't even know what he is doing.

I am so proud, and I will do whatever it takes to support my SR through this journey, thank goodness for the veteran mom's, because of them, at least I know it won't kill me.

I just found this group last night . . .so excited!  Thank you ellen0502 for getting it started.  I went back and read all the post from the beginning!  My daughter arrived at RTC on the 18th and I fell asleep and missed the scripted "I'm here!" phone call home.  At least it is on my voice mail and I've listened to it many times!  She said I would receive the "box" in 3 weeks . . .it arrived that Friday of the same week.  The Form Letter came the Monday after the box.  She said she would call in 3 weeks, but was so hoping the call would come earlier too!  No such luck.  She is on Ship 14, Div 062.

Momof1navyguy ....feel bad complaining I was not home to talk to him when so many did not get calls on Thanksgiving. I finally got smart and when I leave the house all calls are transferred to my cell phone. He did say he would call again next Sunday. Did you get your letter? How do you know what division he is in?
