~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

If they're doing the firefighting training this week, at least the fire will provide some additional warmth!

I'm thinking djk's Mom that we are in fire fighting week, don't stress they might actually be having a little bit of fun this week!

My blue candles are lit while at school today.  Praying for the 911 with the tests/inspections they have this week.

I'm staying at the Navy Lodge Navy Lodge Great Lakes  Try this link and I am going to Sarges Meet and Greet PIR 01/24/14 SARGE'S MEET AND GREET.  Of the ones I heard about, this one seems the most informative (and free) and Sarge has his own fleet of shuttles.  He takes many, many, sailors to and from the airports for leaves and helps out for every PIR!

I posted this question somewhere yesterday but now I can't rememer where. Joined too many places. I have been hearing about some Meet and Greets for Families the night before PIR. One is hosted by someone named Sarge, then there was another in a local hotel. Does anyone plan on going and if you are which one? Also I have heard some folks say they are staying at the Navy Lodge. We didn't even see that on line as a choice. Is it on base? My son keeps talking about a friend he has made that he really likes. Any moms from 070 out there. Maybe we can meet up. Not sure how we can tell since we can't mention last names. The recruits last name begins with a D and he was sick on Christmas day so my SR couldn't spend any time with him and it really bummed him out

Thanks guys, so much!  My SR is always amazed at how much I know about the Navy from being a member here.  Sometimes she even says "ask somebody in your N4M group about this and see what they say"!! lol

Comment by Anti M on January 7, 2014 at 11:44am

Hi, Anti M here.  I usually don't join the individual PIR groups, but saw a question I can answer.

Just as each division has POs for laundry, mail, etc. they also have an EPO, an  Education Petty Officer.  This is a recruit who is chosen to arrange, monitor and lead the night time study groups.  Usually someone with college credits.  I was the EPO in my division, but that was in Orlando, long ago.  The tests are usually multiple choice, similar to how the ASVAB is structured.  A lot of Naval History.  We did lose three recruits to failing the academic tests, but that was when the Navy wasn't quite so choosy who got into boot camp.
