~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Midway is the furthest airport from the base.  OHare is about 35-40 min from RTC.

Ok got it, thanks so much!

Thanks so much for all your feedback. I'm a little less worried now :) I'm sure he'll pass in time for graduation. I plan on booking with southwest now, but I see they only fly into midway and not ohare. Anyone know if that's further or closer from the base?

jamie:  Is Southwest Airlines available to you in your area?  They fly into Chicago-Midway and to Milwaukee.  Midway is about an hour drive to GL (in normal traffic, longer if heavy).  But with Southwest, if you need to change your ticket, there is no change fee charged (just any difference in fare).  The ticket is good for a year if you don't use it for some reason.  Also, if they fail their fitness test (PFA) and they don't pass by the time their PIR comes, they don't get another PIR...they will fly straight to A School when they pass, or be discharged if they don't pass---You could change the ticket to see your new sailor in A School, etc..  Also on Southwest, 2 bags check for free.

Also, they used to give extra pool time for non-swimmers and those having trouble. There were several non-swimmers in my division. They were called companies and not divisions back then. All of the non-swimmers passed their qualification before graduation. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Comment by ellen0502 on January 6, 2014 at 3:52pm

Jamie, That is one of the hardest to pass for many recruits (no fat to float). Rest assured they will be given every opportunity and all the help available to accomplish it.

Right now stay with the "no news is good news", as there is still plenty of time for him to pass. :)

Comment by Lloyd on January 6, 2014 at 3:27pm

Jamie, here is a quote from www.bootcamp.navy.mil. It is under FAQ about recruits that have not passed their swimming qualification. "While recruits are listed in this status, they are not scheduled to graduate. They will not get another phone call until their status changes, meaning: They have passed their test. If they pass before their graduation date, they will complete Battle Stations with whatever division is going through it next. If they pass their test after their original division has graduated, they will then go directly on to their A School. They will not participate in a graduation ceremony as their division would have already graduated and we do not wish to delay their A School training any further." If you decide to book before learning that he has passed, be sure to book with Southwest Airlines. They allow you to change your flight without a fee.

Hi everyone :) I'm new on here. I have a bf who's in ship 03, div 071, and I've been a nervous wreck so I decided to finally join this group :) I wanted to get some advice on something. My SR is having a hard time passing the prone float and in his last letter (wed) He has yet to pass. I was wondering if I should get my flight ticket now and just hope for the best or should I wait on that "I passed" letter? Anyone else having this problem? Some advice would be appreciated :)

Good morning everyone!  I am with boo on this one.  At this point I am hoping for no calls also.  No bad news!!!  I want my daughter to focus on herself and the division so they can be their best!!
