OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Good Morning everyone.  I have not posted a lot on here, but have kept up on all the "goings on".  I agree that everyone needs to stay warm.  All schools in the entire state of MN have been cancelled per the Governor and when I went to the gym this morning actual air temps were -21 with a wind chill of -47.  Just CRAZY!

I am so thankful to have this site to lament with all the other Navy mom's and dad's and gain the wisdom and knowledge of everyone out here.  I, too, miss my son like crazy and am so glad to have PIR only 17 days away.  I actually pray for NO phone call at this time, only because I don't want to hear he is sick or has had a delay of some sort.  Happy Monday to you all and thanks for being a great group of parents!!

Thanks Catmom, good morning everyone :) This bitter cold is dropping into the south, 24 now in western NC with wind chills much much colder. Schools are closed and it's snowing in a lot of areas. Stay warm wherever you are.

Hello!

"For He chose us in Him

Good evening everyone. I hope you all had a good weekend and I hope you are staying warm. My Sailor and grand baby were home for my mom's funeral and for Chirstmas so we got to spend a lot of time with them. It was so hard saying goodbye again this morning but it was a blessing having them home for two weeks. I am so thankful that her command gave her a few extra days on her leave and that we had them here with us during this very hard time. No matter how sad you are a smiling baby can always bring a smile to your face and I know that helped me get through this. They headed back to VA today and are almost back to Norfolk now :) I won't say watching our Sailors leave really gets any easier but I will say that we all get stronger and that helps us get through it. It also helps to have all the support from the friends we meet here and on facebook. I could never survive this roller coaster with all of you and i thanks you so much for all the love and support. Navy Moms Rock!!!!
