Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!
Make sure to read our Community Guidelines and this Navy Operations Security (OPSEC) checklist - loose lips sink ships!
Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Woodchuck mom so sorry to hear about your SR's aunt but if I were you I would wait to tell him, especially since they were not that close, and it is getting down to the wire and I don't think you want to put any undo stress on your SR. I know when I was in Army basic it was right before graduation after our 20 mile road march and I got called into the office and was told my dad had a heart attack but since it was just before graduation I was allowed to go home to be with him he was ok, but had to be in the hospital and I know if it had been in the middle of BC I would have been a wreck so it is probably best to wait to tell your SR about his aunt, God Bless and sending prayers for your family and we are all here for you, inbox me if you need to talk

just mailed my SR a 4 page letter, along with the questioner that was put up, I laughed at some of the questions on that, I miss him so very much, and I know they are so busy but it is getting closer to when we will be able to see our kids!!!

A's momma Erin: If my son's recruiter told him about this site, he never told me (this was back in 2009). I actually found it once he left for Bootcamp by googling "support groups for Navy bootcamp". SO glad that I found it! It was a big help to me...when my son was asmoed (setback), I had no idea what that was. He only was allowed a brief scripted supervised call, no questions. Someone on this site was able to help me understand what it was. So happy that the Navy started this support group back in March 2008!

Thanks diannep. I know what you mean about "going with". I won't worry about a list unless he asks then, hopefully that won't be necessary. I don't know what I would do with out this site. So many things I didn't know or wouldn't have thought of on my own. I'd be a basket case about the lack of phone calls recently, the schedule, how to manage the PIR trip, and all that. I wish all recruiters HAD to tell families about this site. If ours did, it was so casual I don't remember the conversation.
