OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Got a couple letters today! I shared this with another group..

She sounds wonderful! Glad that she has maintained her sense of humor that we all love so much! Div 067 and 068's form letters took so long because those SR;s that arrived 25-11 and 26-11 were waiting for the divisions to fill. Her division (067) specifically were waiting for female recruits and official training did not begin until 2-12-13.

A couple things she said that made me laugh:-"if they want hospital folds they should at least give us fitted sheets, these loose sheets on slippery plastic is maddening!" and,

"mom, this place is like an insane asylum...the toilet paper has to be a clean break and the break has to sit at 1200, F__ing bananas"!

All in all it sounds like they are adapting and are all on their way to becoming US Sailors!

good morning everyone, hope for a great day for all of you and keeping all our SR's in my thoughts an prayers, I hope to get a letter soon from my son, he isn't a writer but I do hope he will write to me and his grandmother and some of his friends, but mainly I really would love a letter from him, PIR is the day after my birthday so it is going to make a double celebration weekend!! ordering my son a challenge coin to remind him of BC and have his dad give it to him while shaking hands, though my son will hug us both but they will also shake hands, watching the countdown everyday!! have a great day all
