OPSEC, OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmust importance. Please take the time to read the Opsec and Community Guidelines. A quick note here: Last Names are never allowed on this site. Yes, Betsy.  They can send makeup for pictures and for PIR.

What Betsy said about the SMALL amount of solution for the contacs is a good point.  Don't send a large bottle please.

For those of you who have SR's that have to wear the BCG's, you are allowed to send them their contact lenses prior to PIR, it you wish.  I would suggest mailing them at least 3 weeks before PIR and also send a small amount of solution as well.

They may have to open the package in front of the RDC's, but it's not a big deal.  They are permitted to have them.

For those who have female SR's, you can also send a little bit of makeup, I believe?  Could one of our other veterans confirm that for me?

Thank you Lala...that is really good to know about the lanes.  There is always the good lane when entering a base.  I will be coming from Texas but I was stationed in New England for a while, so I know how to drive in bad weather.  Everyone, give your self time if you drive.  It can be really difficult.  I will be going but dad thinks we can only afford one person to go, so he will be staying behind.  I pray for our children every day and I know it can be hard.  It was hard on my father when I left for BC in 1991, lol.  I guess I am not sad, I miss her but I am so very proud.  Keep your head up.

Good Morning!

Comment by Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons on December 4, 2011 at 9:12am

I can give you a couple tips for driving to the base for PIR. First if you are coming through Indiana do NOT speed. Their fine are CrAzY lol. They mean business and have sign to let you know they do. Second, when you get in the line to get to base on PIR morning don't line up in the far right lane. You will see lots of cars lined up there but that lane ends and they all have to merge over one lane. So avoid the far right lane and you will take some time off you wait. :-)

MrsDavidsMom:  BCG stands for BIRTH CONTROL GLASSES because they are so ugly, they are a natural for that!  :-)

Good morning, everyone!

LOL Mrs. David's Mom, All the SRs hate the glasses. It can get pretty nasty there, I drove to Chicago one winter from Ohio...yuck. We live in Arizona now & we are driving there for PIR. Not really looking forward to that long drive but wouldn't miss it for the world. Besides will make Hubby drive the bad parts...lol.

Comment by Mrs. David's mom on December 4, 2011 at 7:33am

Any driving tips about that area of the country?  We are planning on driving up there, we're only 2 states away, but I am fearful about weather for that time of year.

My son's note on our form letter was " I look goofy..."  He had to give up contact lenses and wear what his recruiter called BCD's.  David says, big glasses and a bald head is not a good look for him.  I don't know, I looked up on the wall at his 3rd grade picture and, well, the look seemed to work for him back then.
