I have been so overwhelmed with the thoughts. prayers, & support from everyone on here. The accident did happen on our way to the PIR, & no we didn't make it out of AZ. God decided on that day he needed a special Angel & my sweet Karley could not have been a better choice. I was life flighted to Flagstaff Medical Center, I broke 1 vertebra in 3 and think chipped a couple others. I had 2 titanium rods/screws permently in place. Also shattered my right writst so will be needing cast soon, yes @ first they did believe I had a tear in my esphogus so feeding tube was put in but thank God removed 24 hours laters. They also believe I had a blood clot in my lungs so am on blood thinner for at least 6 months. God decided that yesterday I was fit to come home, a very overwhelming & heartbreaking homecoming indeed. Having my SR Ashley here has been a tremendous thing even considering the currcunstances. She will be leaving & going to A school GL the 10th so enjoying every min being with her. It was my decision to keep the tragic events of last week from her until after her ceremony, it was a tough dicision but I stand by it always. Again my heart is overwhelmed by all of you & I love you all & God Bless You All. Service arraingements are to be made tomorrow.

Stephanie: You are very welcome. It was my pleasure to meet you and all the other lovely ladies I met in Chicago.

I'm not sure where to start:  good news, my daughter loves the Navy and says this is the best experience of her life.  I am very proud of her and just was joyful to see her glowing face.  I enjoyed spending time with other Sailors and their family.  It made a wonderful memory for me and my daughter.   sad news, Brandy is my daughters bunk mate and my daughter is very serious at times and will do anything she can to help.  Brandy will have many Sailor sisters that will be looking out for her.  Prayers all around...I know that I will be taking it to our prayer meeting on Thursday at my church.

Thank you Deb for you and your family's blessing.  I am greatly appreciative and you have a special place in my heart.  Carol...you are "the bomb" and don't you forget it.  Tell your daughter to be nice! lol...

I feel much like you Mrs. David's mom.  I was concerned because some of the mom's who had Brandy's phone number hadn't heard from her.  I came on here after I woke up on Sat. and saw the post about what happened on facebook.  I know what you mean by being deflated and brought back down to earth.  Brandy was one of the first ladies I started talking to that had a daughter.

My daughter was friends with her as well.  Thank you FTLW for calling as well.  I don't think I could have made that call without crying so much I'd be incoherent.  I am praying for their family and hoping they get some kind of peace in all of this.  Wishing the rest of you well also.

Well...IDK what made me write that Dianne! After all the times we have discussed that issue! My brain was mush yesterday!

Comment by Mrs. David's mom on January 31, 2012 at 3:55pm

I'm still here, just been in too much shock over Brandy to make any comments.

Here we all were, sharing a common life experience. For most of us, a "walkin on air" experience.  And for another family, a parents worst nightmare.  The "How's" and "Why's" we will probably never understand.

I scrolled back and re-read my last post.  I used the work "Euphoric" to discribe my feelings on saturday. News of Brandy brought me back down to earth, humbled me.  I am thankful to God for allowing us to spend time with our son.  And that He give comfort to Brandy, her new Sailor, and all her family.

I think your post is wonderful, FTLW.  Thanks!  And...remember....we can't delete on this main board.  Only the group creator can...we can only delete discussions.  But no need to delete it!

Hoping that some of the ladies stay in touch on here.  Seems very quiet, but maybe some have just returned from PIR and haven't had time to get on here yet.  Prayers continue for Brandy and her family.

Comment by JudyAnn (IT A-School) on January 31, 2012 at 4:34am

FTLW...I'm glad you called.  I was struggling with that myself for the privacy reason. I'm sure the show of support was appreciated. I have visited with her SR daughter, passed on messages through her, and she has been in touch with my SR daughter.  Geez what a mess.  Apparently the accident was on Tuesday the 24th, which is the day they were planning to leave for PIR - they didn't even make it out of AZ.  Obviously, a decision was made not to tell SR daughter until after graduation.  I think I can support that decision...tuff call though.  And I'm not sure the entire Division was told as my SR told me tonight that Chief pulled her aside when she came back from liberty to tell her as he knew they were friends.

On a fresh note... my SR is settled in at Corry station and once again in a holding pattern until her A-school class starts.  Her roommate is in the same program, has already been there 3-1/2 weeks and just recently got word that her classes begin next week...so looks like she's in for some more hurry-up and wait time.  There is a week of "indoc" and then "core" classes which, if I understand her right, is basic how-to-behave-at-Corry-Station-and-more-Navy-history classes.  I was talking to her on her phone this afternoon (how cool is that!  :-)  when she asked me if I could hear that... we silently listened to the trumpet announcing "colors" in 5 min.  She said right that minute probably half the base was scrambling to get inside, otherwise anyone who was outside had to stop where they were and salute at attention during the "colors". ceremony.- funny.  Yep, 5 min later the trumpet began again and played throughout the ceremony, then there was a short run at the end that she said announced the end of the salute.  THAT WAS SO COOL!! :-)  Sent chills up my spine.  Of course, she's like no big deal as she's heard it every day for the last 2 months...lol.  Awe well... I'm easy to impress I guess.

I have found two groups for my daughters contract category on N4M's so will likely gravitate in that direction.  You all have been a great joy and a wealth of information.  I was also told that I knew more than my SR did about what was going to happen to her so you veterans do a great job :-)  Wish I'd gotten to put faces to names at Sarges function - I was there! :-)  I will continue to share here any updates I get on Brandy.  Gob bless her and her family.

If I said too much in the post below please let me know and I will delete it or momma2many, diannep, Betsy, and LaLa can also do that.

It's so hard sometimes...I just don't want to invade their privacy too much even though they have kept people updated on FB.
