Yes, since my SR will be staying at GL and have liberty. I have other family members coming up and I want him to be able to spend as much time as he can with the family. So I'm going to play it safe and select one of the other hotels that are perhaps closer to the restaurants off base. The RDC's are recruit division commander's. The individual's who are in their face yelling commands and so on, toughening our SR and their BC experience.
Carolski: If your sailor is staying in GL for A School, there could be an issue with visiting you at the Lodge. Navy Lodge will tell you there is not, but it is not up to them....it is up to A School base. For those who have sailors flying out, there should not be a problem with them visiting family in Navy Lodge after PIR. They will be bussed to the airports later that night.
When I called the Navy Lodge they said that they were not on base and that there would be no problems with us or my soon to be sailor to stay there during the day since they only get day liberty anyway.
RDC's ?
I finally received a call from my SR yesterday God is Great!. My son sounded like he had a cold cough. He said the Recruit cough is going around, however just hearing his voice cough and all sounded amazing. He was in good spirits and did say how challenging and stressful it is at BC, but that he has the support of his shipmates and the support of his family is soo Awesome. That is what pushes him to move forward and to never give up. He was made a Yeoman and that gives him a bit of a break from the intensity that they are experiencing. He is looking forward to graduation and can't wait to see the family. Oh and BTW I will be changing my reservation from the Navy Lodge because he did confirm that he is staying at GL for A school. I asked him if they are able to to be near the RDC's after graduation. He indicated that they are told they should not be anywhere near the RDC 's for several months after Graduation. So all the post and the information he gave me yesterday has helped me to determine that it is probably best to make alternate reservations so that we may spend as much time with our SR after PIR.
