For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

We got very reasonable rates at Navy Lodge, think it was under 70/night with the hubs military discount. Can't remember the airline, but round trip B'ham to Chicago was 232 each.

Beverly - No I'm sorry, RTC does not provide an extra viewing area on base for PIR. They ask that all guests not on the Access List to please wait off base until after PIR.
There will be a Livestream of PIR that may be viewed on the internet. I know the Navy Lodge shows it in their lobby, do not know if other Hotels do.
This is the link for the Livestream and I will post in the Discussion area as well.

The piks of the sailors in their uniforms are done close to the end of Bootcamp. Your SRs will have a chance to pay for these and then they are given their piks to either mail home (they pay for this) or hold until you arrive for PIR, giving them to you after that. Those who cannot pay for them will wait until after PIR and go pay for them in the Photo Lab with family members.

soniev: They don't get Leave after PIR. They get Liberty....those flying out usually just have Liberty on PIR Day; those staying in GL for A School will have Daytime Liberty Fri, Sat, and Sun.

Yes, true, soniev. Your sailors will have flight info at PIR. However, they are bussed to the airports usually PIR night (very late) to wait for flights on Sat. So most families will go out there around 4 a.m. or so to meet up with their sailors.

Is it true we can meet our SR at the airport before they fly out to A school to give them their phones? If this is true how do we find out there flight info?
