Good morning everybody,Friday will be upon us very very soon ,I am so excited I can't wait to see my son .I am so very very proud of him.He has aced everything in basic training.Hope to see everybody at the meet and greet at the saloon.12/074 HOOYAH!!!!!!! Everyone have a safe trip to PIR!!!
Good morning everyone. I only have 2 days of work this week, then off to GL on Weds. afternoon! I saw the snow prediction & am so happy we are flying out early. I am not completely packed yet, but everything is in one place. I do have my cuddle duds packed! We will be taking my hubby's handicap placard, so the walk will not be as far in the cold. Guess I better pack some flannel pj's and lots of wool socks. I hate cold weather!!!! i don't see it really being a factor for any of us once we get to see our Sailors come thru those doors. Our love will keep us warm!
I had a great talk with my son on Sat. He is in div. 074, part of the winning Captain's Cup team so he was really happy. He hurt his ankle but would not go to medical for fear of being held back & not graduating on Fri. By the end of our conversation he said he might go to med. on Sun. after church. He is still recovering from pneumonia too.
I hope you all have a great week. Safe travels and look forward to meeting some of you on Thurs/Fri.
It was Dec 13...exactly 2 months ago that our SR arrived at Great Lakes....What a journey its been...and in 3 day we leave....and 4 day we will get to see him again!!!
Thank You to all the ladies that have kept us going through the ups and downs over the last 2 months...I don't know how I would have survived with out N4M...and I have now found a group for his A school and that group has already become a great source of help and information....
If I had to do it again, I would probably do the Shuttle (knowing what I know now). I originally thought the Shuttles were just taxis (i.e., a yellow cab - small cars), but they are nice size vans. And, they do drop you off at the Front Gate around 6:25 to 6:30 a.m. My son requested that we drive because he was thinking it was also a small taxi.
One thing that did make me a little mad, Around 6:15, some one in a big van, pulled up right next to us trying to by-pass the whole line and sneak in. I didn't think that was right. I told my husband - don't you DARE let him in!! We had been there since 5:35 and he can go to the back of the line like everyone else. I didn't think that was fair. I don't know if anyone else let him in.
Another thing is when you take pictures - do not use your flash. The first couple of pictures I took with my digital camera I used the flash and the pictures were really dark, so I turned off the flash and the pictures turned out beautifully.
The Navy does an AMAZING job with the PIR.
If you drive to the base you can drop him off right in front of the visitors center where you check in and they do have wheelchairs available with some very nice Sailors to help you with them as well. When you come in the gate just ask them and they will direct you to where you can drop off your passenger and get a wheelchair :-)
Yay GoatLady thanks so much for coming back and helping out and I agree PIR is truly amazing.
Yah, GoatLady! Thanks so much for posting here for the ladies! Keep up the good work in helping as a N4Moms veteran! We welcome your help!
momofSR: It is about 1/4-1/2 mile walk from the front gate (shuttle drop off) to the PIR hall. But..there are sailors stationed on the base with wheelchairs to wheel him right into the hall if his knee is bothering him. I'm a fan of the shuttles and think that may work out best for him. The walk really isn't bad.
If you want to doublecheck, call the Public Affairs Office and talk it over with them:
847-688-2405
Regarding your father-in-law with the bad knee, you might want to check to see with the RTC to see if they have wheel chairs available. I remember seeing somewhere, too, that it is a 100 yard walk - it is all flat.
I agree this site and the facebook pages really helped when my son was in boot camp and now he is in A-School. I have met a lot of really neat Moms here. Good luck to you and your new Sailors. Alll I can say about the graduation is WOW!
Pink eye seems to be running rampant. Of course, it is highly contagious, so that makes sense. I heard the second peanut butter shot was because of an outbreak of strep, but I can't remember where I heard it. At this point I am really glad I made my daughter get a flu shot before she left home.
