~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.
~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.
~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.
~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Sunshine: Sometimes the form letter takes a while to get to you. You said the recruiter has no info on him? Not even a ship/div # yet? They usually get this on the computer. You may want to check with him/her again.
Hoping that the form letter is in your mailbox today!
Sunshine66-- I would be freaking out by now if I was still waiting on the letter...my son left the 8th also and we got everything along the same time frame as 'luvmysailor' except the letter came a couple days sooner than hers. and like Alec's mom, my phone was in purse so I missed his call. Hang in there Sunshine, surely you will hear something soon!
Sunshine66,
I am praying that one of the other recruits who sees that your son doesn't have a calling card will give him one of their calling codes from www.callsforrecruits.org which were free for the asking. They email 8 codes and encourage that the codes be shared. My daughter said she saw calling cards there for $10. Hopefully, if your son has some cash, he will get a card and call you soon. At this point, he should be able to call this week (maybe closer to the weekend, but keep your phone handy always!!) to let you know he's still alive!! I'm sure the Form letter will be delivered to you this week. We received ours on Saturday the 19th and our daughter shipped out the 9th. You WILL get a call from him this week!! Here's a great big >>HUG for you~~~
Sunshine66 My son left out on the 10th he didn't call until the following sunday said Hi I'm here I'm ok click..... Got his form letter Saturday. with the holiday closing of Gov.offices and such the mail will be delayed I hope you get yours soon.
I did get a call from him Sunday, I asked why he didn't call the night he got there. He said he didn't have a phone card to use at the time he left his cell phone hear with me..Hope you hear something soon....
Hi everyone I am new to this so bare with me My SR arrived 1/8 and called on that day I got the box 1/11 form letter1/18, a call 1/19, Ship 14 Div 105, 4 guest I am so excited to see who has an SR the same Ship & Div
So, I got a phone call from my son last Saturday. The bad news is, I was working and had my phone in my purse. When i had a moment to grab my purse and put my phone in my pocket, I saw that I missed his call by 20 minutes. He left me a voicemail and he sounded so sad. I am so sad - I am sure he is feeling worse than me.
My son arrived on Jan 8. I haven't received the form letter or a call. Anybody else have a SR with the same arrival date that hasn't gotten the letter or a call. I'm about at the end of my rope. I really thought it would come today but it didn't. My recruiter says he doens't have any info. I'm really trying to be patient but not being very successful!
my son's b-day is tomorrow!!! I'm so glad I didn't send him a musical card LOL! I actually didn't send one at all yet because I read that the RDC's might make a special "celebration" for him if they find out it's his day...oh my...wonder what that means?!! I'm quite sure his grandparents already sent a nice big card in a colored envelope---woop woop!! Let the celebrating begin!
My sons BD is right after graduation I was wondering the same thing..What to do as it will be a while before we will see him again...
alane, yep, I agree with everyone else and say do not send those. If it was found out that he had something like that, it could cause trouble. They are now getting used to wearing their standard issued uniform and if you have seen past pictures of SR's on the RTC FB page, you see that they are bundle up quite well. My son was there in Nov. & Dec. and he said he was never cold either.
Kylesmom, what a wonderful picture and it's so awesome that your son is following in a family tradition.
NavyMom, what about a nice dinner and a cake at the restaurant?
