For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Annebelle - I reserved a family suite at the Naval Lodge for really cheap!! Call them. Very nice people. It is an older lodge but I hear it is clean and they are friendly.

annebelle, you could also book a flight to Milwaukee. It's a very easy 45 drive to Great Lakes and Southwest flies out of there, which can be a little bit cheaper sometimes. SW also allows 2 free checked bags per person. The only thing would be that if you are going to the airport with your sailor, they do usually leave from Chicago. You would have to leave enough time to get to your own flight, if you decide to do that. We also suggest that, if you can, stay in the area until Sunday, so that would not be an issue.
Most people stay in Waukegan or Gurnee, which is very close to RTC. There are shuttles to RTC from some of the hotels, so before you book, check with them about that. There is also a former military man who runs a shuttle from the airport to the hotels. His name is Sarge and many people who have used his services just love him. He also hosts a Meet & Greet for family and friends on the night before PIR, as well. His phone number is 847-212-0246. Residence Inn is in Gurnee and is very nice and pet friendly. They also have a shuttle to RTC

Okay booking a flight. So, Airport would be Chicago and nearest hotels are where? I want to be close. Never drove in snow, so perhaps taxi is the best venue?

scmneff: Are you talking about Residence Inn's 2 bdrm deals? We stayed there and used our AAA discount. They have a Navy Grad discount too...but I think we missed out on that. It is a bit pricey for the 2 bdrm but still could be cheaper than getting 2 rooms somewhere if you are having to do that. Plus, with full kitchens, you could bring your own food in if you want to. There is a large Walmart close by. We enjoyed our stay there...it is pet friendly also...free breakfast....some other perks. PIR shuttle too.

It just depends on how many arrived and how quickly the division filled up. It could also be that someone was moved out of the DIV and they needed another to take their place. That happens sometimes.

Kelso12, I wonder what it means that they are in the same ship and DIV and they shipped out on different days? Your SR was Jan 14th and mine was Jan 9th
