~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

They should have holiday routine tomorrow so you may actually get a letter or two this week :) Finger crossed for all of you :) That also mean letters you receive will probably be delayed by day.

You can also have a "don't answer" contact in your phone and then every time you get a call form a solicitor you can add that number to the "Don't answer" name. Then when they call again answer and hang up immediately so it doesn't tie up your number while ringing. You learn a lot when waiting for such an important call :)

That is so funny Ellen, I can just hear two friends talking to each other. "Did you hear about Sally? She was diagnosed with VBS." lol

Now I don't feel as silly as I did yesterday thanks ellen and dianep...I had read that many were getting calls, so I was holding my phone like it was a fine piece of china, and then I had to shower, and I was thinking, now how am I going to hear my phone if it rings...I opted for a bath and kept my phone with me in the tub just in case....lol

Most will get sick at bootcamp...it is almost guaranteed.  From all of those shots they are given when they arrive (too many at once in my humble opinion!), to living with so many in close quarters...even though they disinfect their hands often--just happens.  Most get through this fine...the RDCs try to give them light duty if necessary.  Even those normally healthy, like my son who seemed to never get sick prior to bootcamp, seem to succomb to something there.  Pink eye is rampant but quickly cured.  The flu/cold type stuff hangs on a bit longer.

AMEN, ellen!  Great advice.  Seriously, ladies, if you don't want to miss that call, in the bra it goes!  One lady posted a picture of hers duct taped to her forehead!  It is very sad when you find a missed call from your SR on your phone....be sure to answer ALL calls while you have an SR at bootcamp, even possible solicitors, since sometimes the calls come from different area codes (although usually 847).  Just get rid of the solicitors quickly!

Good Morning All!

Keep your phones handy at all times, even if it is a trip to the mailbox or bathroom, keep it in your bra on vibrate if you have too. Use the I have VBS (Vibrating Bra Syndrome) when darting out of a room to answer it. Most will be too afraid to ask what VBS is, and those that do will probably get a kick out of it. :)

thankful45 & teacher/mom,

While I'm sorry you missed your sons' calls and being able to talk to them live, here's a perspective:  You have new recordings of them that you can listen to over and over!  With a live call, we would only have the memory of the call... Nice to know that extrat calls are possible!
