OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

I also want to thank all the people sharing knowledge on here. Although I haven't posted much, I read it all and have learned so much. My ex (sailor's dad) even said to me yesterday boy you're really in the know! :) But I did kind of feel bad about maybe knowing too much with my sailor because when he called me after the Captains Cup and before he had a chance I said Oh congrats on winning the Captains cup! and he said, oh, I was going to tell you that! So I love knowing, but I think I will wait for him to tell me first next time. There are 4 of us flying in Thurs afternoon and now I have to start tracking the weather and usable airports - I am NOT missing! Thanks again everyone!

Ladies with "sailors" in 916/917!  HOOYAH!  Expect some very special calls this afternoon!  Remember, if someone has "watch," they will not be able to call right away.  For those who get calls, please ask if all in the division passed and post that info for the ladies who may not get their calls right away.

Comment by diannep on March 5, 2013 at 9:37am

Jersey Sam:  I have a feeling you will get a VERY SPECIAL call this Wed afternoon so keep that phone close by!

Good Morning All!
