OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

At O'Hare this morning they wouldnt let us in line with our Sailor. He said he would issue gate passes for family after all Sailors were done. This wasn't good for us because there were 100 Sailors in line and my son had a 5:30 flight and it was already 4am. He was first in line and was told he needed to go on because security was backed up. On top of this they arrived at airport 30 min late. We said goodbye and he left. Then I thought, nope, I'm going through!!! I found a different person and explained he had already gone through and by the time families were issued passes my son would be in the air (tears were flowing, couldn't help it!) and he got us passes!!! By the time we got through security and to his gate we didn't have long but we were still glad we did it and so was he!!! This won't be a problem for people with later flights but it was for us. He has already arrived and is settling in at his A school. Can't believe boot camp is over and we've moved on!!! Btw, graduation was awesome!!! And ALL info from here and Sarge was invaluable!!! Thanks so much to all of you.

One other piece of misinformation we received (can't remembered where - obsessive reading!) was that you obtain passes to go to the gate your sailor is departing from the USO. This is incorrect! Once your Sailor checks his bags and gets his/her boarding pass, accompany them to the ticket counter. The airlines will issue gate passes to loved ones who wish to wait with their Sailor at their departure gate. You'll just need to show ID. With so little time between PIR and my Sailor's departure, every minute together counted!

Yes, thanks, MollysMom:  We have heard that off and on from previous groups...the RDCs tell them that families cannot go to the airport many times.  We know this is not true because we checked it out with USO/airport personnel.  They love their sailors and welcome the families!

Not sure why the RDCs tell them this  :-(  Personally, I think it is pretty mean.  Also, once they leave RTC, they are "detached" from them...so there is no control over the sailors anymore from that Command.

Thanks for reminding me about this...I will post this on the other PIR groups right now!

Thanks so much for sharing this!

diannep: apparently the SRs are told that family cannot get gate passes. But that's not true. The airlines are very accommodating. But for some reason they have been told not to have family come to the airports.

Hope all are enjoying visits today at the airports...or....in GL with their A School sailors!

Ladies, we N4Moms veterans would like to know if any info we gave you has been changed or was not accurate re: your PIR experience  We like to keep our info "up to date" and depend on ones like you who just went through PIR to help us with that.   Sooo...if you found anything has changed, please post on here so that we can "tweak" what we are telling the future PIR groups!  Thanks so much!

Wow!! What a great day!! Now to get some rest before I meet my sailor at Midway at 1:00 am.
Comment by diannep on March 8, 2013 at 9:30am

Ok, everyone is there already, yes???  Seated in PIR Hall?  What???  Some of you aren't THERE YET???  Get moving!  :-)  But more importantly....enjoy this very special day!  Congrats to your sailors!  And....Good Morning!

Comment by diannep on March 7, 2013 at 11:03pm

In bed early, ladies....you need to be up EARLY in the morning!  Nitey nite!

Comment by diannep on March 7, 2013 at 11:02pm

Too funny, ellen.  Hence, the reason I have a room a/c above my head when I'm sleeping, in addition to my central air, to tone down those hotflashes!  :-)  That...and kicking that foot wildly out from under the blankets to cool down!  A cold room and a constant noise (like an a/c humming or white noise!) really provide good sleep!  :-)
