OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Jazzy's Mom - My heart goes out to you. We have 2 German Shepard/Black Lab mixes. I'm thinking his recovery and your peace of mind would be better if you were with him.

OKAY...My curiosity got the better of me and so I went over to FB and joined the 03/15/2013 PIR group. There are several people from here over there, and a lot that never heard of n4m. What I don't understand is the redunacy of information. Why not just refer people to here? It almost looks like someone is copying and pasting all the information from this site to that groups documents. I'm not a big FBer but I'm trying lol.

Here is our sick baby. The one in my profile picture is Major.

Comment by Jazzy's Mom on March 5, 2013 at 10:16am

diannep - we are checking our options at this point on where he will stay. We also have another dog named Major who is part Pointer, part ??? We already made arrangements for them to stay at their favorite doggie daycare (okay my husband is obsessed with our dogs...what can I say lol) but now we need to talk to them to see what their policies are. Unfortunately both dogs are quite large and it would be a major imposition for them to stay with most of our friends who live in tiny places with no yards (apartments and condos) and my grown kids live too far away. My husband thought about talking to the surgeon to see if he felt the surgery could wait until we got back from PIR instead. Atticus and hubby are almost tied at the hips so this will be hard on both of them, whereas Major is easy going and just goes with the flow.

all info was so on the money!!!!!!!!!!! I knew where to go, when to go, how things worked . i knew to have him back early, I also learned and listented to what was said about after 2 months of intense training my sailor would be exausted, I saw sailors being dragged from one place to another, my son said his friends parents had plans to go here, and to go there, and all he wanted to do was rest in the hotel with his family and watch tv, eat pizza and nap Moms, please remember, your babies are so tired,  they have been so cut off, let them make the plans, even if there is no plan at all. I got so much pleasure watching my sailor, my baby sleep oh so peacefully !!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you Navy for Moms!! could not have made it without you!!!!!!!! Love you guys

Oh, Jazzy, so sorry.  Isn't that the way it works...good news and bad news...so glad that the dr feels like he has a chance with the surgery...love his name!  A very "manly" name!  Prayers for him that he will get some additional time in his life.  Will he have to stay in the clinic while you are gone or will someone be able to look after him in your home?

Good Morning All!

Good news! I was able to print my car pass!

Bad news....we found out yesterday our beloved german shepard, Atticus, has cancer and will have surgery three days before we leave for PIR.

I understand how you feel dangermrs. We leave in eight days to start our trip north. I've already started packing a bag and putting stuff in it every day!
