Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

2 days exactly till PIR Yay. Come on 12pm my time.

I totally agree with ellen that all need to do their very best to be on that finalized list.  That would mean, writing to your SR early during bootcamp with the full names of those attending.  That is the only guaranteed way that your group will get in.  But remember, as RTC FB said before, who attends for your sailor is totally up to your sailor.  He/she will be the ones to determine this, but will need to coordinate with you on who can/can't attend.

Comment by ellen0502 on March 13, 2013 at 11:12am

I would not count on getting in to PIR if you are not on the list. Jersey Sam you may have just lucked out that day with a sympathetic PO, or possibly not known the other names were on the list(?).

From the RTC website

As of January 1st, 2013 Recruit Training Command will enforce the following policy:

ALL GUESTS, including Active Duty/Retired Military Personnel and those ages 3 and older must be on the access list.  Children 2 and under do not need to be on the access list. Please coordinate with the recruit as only recruits may place names on the list.  RTC staff can neither change these names nor release the names of those on the list.

12 or less divisions within the training group: FOUR guest maximum per recruit.

13 or more divisions within the training group: THREE guest maximum per recruit

Individuals not on the access list will NOT be able to enter the drill hall and we do NOT have a standby list.

LuLu:  Thank you so much!  It has been a wild 6 weeks in our household...marriage...baby announcement to family (too early for anyone else)...then the job loss.  I was reminded by another friend yesterday to keep my eyes on Him because the Lord is on the throne!  I have been on my knees....so I am constantly looking up to Him.  Comments like yours help me so much!  Thanks!

Jersey Sam:  Thanks for the info that if the name is not on the list, some can still get in if within the allotted number per sailor.  RTC has posted that if you are not on the list, you will not get in.  Nice to know that maybe that is not always the case?  Here is the info on the RTC site:

http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/upcoming_grads.asp

This will give some hope to those who did not make it on the updated list...however, I hope that all checking people in are as compassionate as the person that checked you in!
