~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Gate pass can be issue at Counter C or D (1st class) at the Terminal 2 O'Hare. Your sailor will have to show his/her ID to get it for the family.

Comment by Jersey Sam on March 13, 2013 at 8:53am

Airport: Families can still go to the airport earlier. Only thing is, they will only be able to get passes to the gate until every SR is clear. Only then airport staff will entertain the family members. Before that, ONLY SR... U just have to wait till it clears & that will be 4 to 5 hrs.

Guest List: Update 1 1/2 week before PIR. No updates PIR week. If your SR group allow 4 guests to her graduation, then 4 of u can get in even if only 1 name is on the list. The officer will let 4 of u in. My name was the only one in the list. We suppose to have 4 guests on the list. They still let us in. But if u have more than what is allowed (some Divisions only allowed 3 guests), then the last one will not be allow to go in. U just have to provide SR name, your ID or passports.

I am sure this is a question that has been answered before, but I can't find it. Where do we ask for the gate passes at to get to our Sailor at the airport? Second question, calls today at 2pm, what time zone are we talking about? Theirs?

Good Morning Ladies. Finally our day is here. Blue candle burned beautifully all night.

Dianne- we're staying at the Residence Inn and taking their shuttle to PIR does it just wait in the parking lot after?

Comment by diannep on March 13, 2013 at 8:09am

kellismom:  They normally update the lists before BattleStations.  I have been told that they cannot update during PIR week, but not positive on that.  Just know that if she goes to PIR and they won't let her in, she will not be allowed on the base at all.  She will either have to wait in the car (long wait!) or return to the hotel.  If you all take a shuttle, she can probably grab one of the shuttles as they "drop off" and get back that way ($3/pp each way).  The only way you will know who she put on the list is if she calls you before PIR.  Public Affairs has no access to the lists so there is no way to confirm who is on it prior to PIR other than through your sailor.

On the airport visits...bottom line, anyone can go to an airport...they just can't get through security if non-ticketed or unless obtaining a gate pass.  So...although the airport can discourage those from coming early and hanging around, they really can't keep it from happening.  And if it was such a problem, they would have taken measures to see if there was something else they could do to handle it....so....I think it is just a game that the RDCs play.  We had some families check this out when they went to the airports and they reported that the USO and airport personnel were wonderful to them.

Good Morning All!

Beach Bunny- my son is going to Pensacola too!  Hopefully, he will get an extra day- I should know later today!  Lulu and Jersey Sam- thanks for the airport updates- at least we can still visit them there :)

Sorry...follow up question..How would I find out who ended up on the list? She wasn't sure about being able to update it when we spoke on the phone.
Comment by kellismom on March 13, 2013 at 6:48am
I have a question that was probably answered already but I can't find it. Are they able to update their guest list after the BS call? It happens that her boyfreind's Mom will be in town.
Comment by Jersey Sam on March 13, 2013 at 2:06am

Was told that airport need to do the clearance 1st before letting the family members there. They clear the airport for the sailor (hundreds) & that takes hours. They do not want all the families to be there at the same time as the SR. Too many to handle. After that, all SR can call their families to visit them at the airport & get passes for them too.

Comment by BeachBunny on March 12, 2013 at 11:38pm

lulu...I'll be there with you and lucky enough that our Pensacola bound sailors get an extra day with us....:))
