OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Well, you know to a snowboarder any "snow" is like asking a fisherman how "big" the fish is that he caught...:) He said everything is pretty good. The food's a little boring ( he's a great cook, so it's probably a little bland). His unit is small, only 80 and he had "watch" last night and was a little tired but all in all it was going "good"...last weekend I missed his call so I'm feeling, much better since I was able to talk to him. He said they were starting to get mail but he hasn't had time to write yet, maybe tomorrow....:)

...when my son was there, they did IT for 2 hours one night...the SR who had misbehaved wasn't allowed to do it...everyone else in the division did and the RDCs made him sit and watch.  My son said the guy ended up in tears...you can imagine the mind game that was going on (but I bet he never did it again!).  My son said they were so tired, sweaty, and spent that all just headed to their racks and collapsed.  He is a "clean freak" with showers....so he must have been really tired if he said he didn't even care the he was hot and sweaty!  :-)

Yep, sailors w/pneumonia ....not a good thing!  Believe it or not, some get it while at bc, even sometimes ending up in the hospital, but amazingly, they graduate...some without even having to be setback!  These SRs are tough!  :-)

Comment by JenBo on February 2, 2013 at 7:53pm

No problem Dianne! If you think about it, what good is a sailor with pneumonia to the Navy? Apparently there is also a limit to how long they can be ITed for, but don't quote me on that. They want them toughened up, not dead! Lol.

5 feet of snow in one night, BeachBunny?  Really????  HA!

Comment by diannep on February 2, 2013 at 6:58pm

JenBo:  Thanks for posting that about how warm they make them dress.  So many worry about the cold and their SRs.  My son had told me when he was up there that there is no way you can get cold as bundled up as they are!  When it is really bad outside, they don't go out.  They have covers for their faces too, and can purchase ear muffs as well.  He is a S. FL boy so if he didn't get cold, then I think all will be ok!  We are a bunch of wimps down here with cold weather!

Oh..yeah..got a phone for my SR 11/114,  this morning, I was on my way out the door...I was late  to my event but for a GREAT reason! Yeah.. asked him many questions..he sounded great! He said last week he had a reaction to one of the shots but worked thru it now. He said it was 63 degrees the other day and then last night GL got 5 ft of snow. Being a snowboarder he was really to hit the runs...ha,ha..I sent him some free calling cards that I got from www.callsforrecuits.com, He said he handed some out to other SR, so hopefully more SR will be calling home if they don't have a calling card yet...:)

Got a call from my SR 12/120. He sounded great and is doing well on tests. I was very relieved he didn't ask about my dad so I didn't have to lie to him. He's fine, I'm fine. Hope everyone else is having a great day.
