~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

I agree Annabel Lee and Em's mom!  Such a relief being able to have talk again!  It makes having to say goodbye so quickly a little better.

It's so nice to be able to text and talk to my daughter again!!  Even though I have to wait for her to respond, I know she will.      Hope all is going well with everyone else.

Verm68,

You should ask about EM hold times in your Great Lakes A school group.  Those moms should know more as all the A schools have different hold times for the different ratings.

For example, my Sailor daughter went to Pensacola A school for IT.  The training took 5 months.  But she had to wait to "class up" (wait for enough IT Sailors to arrive before classes could begin).  She only had to wait 2 1/2 weeks, but it could have taken 2 - 3 months.  In Hold waiting to class up, they do alot of cleaning and volunteering to help in the community or around the base.  They can sign up for things.

"Phasing up" just means the time it takes before the Sailors are able to wear civilian clothes and be able to have "liberty" (leave base with a liberty buddy or family).  Phase 1 is about 2 weeks (in uniform all the time, muster (meet for roll call several times a day); Phase 2 means they can wear civilian clothes and have more liberty;  Phase 3 is the most relaxed, called Foxtrot in Pensacola.

One thing to caution your Sailors is not to engage in underage drinking or hanging out with the wrong crowd of Sailors.  Too many have thrown away their Navy careers doing such things!!

I was wondering about hold for (EM) at A school in Great Lakes ????
