OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

LordyMsLady- that brought tears to my eyes. You are exactly where I am in this journey, and my emotions are the same... So excited for the call I can hardly focus on packing!!
Comment by LordyMsLady on March 26, 2014 at 11:29am

I am posting this early as I feel I will be way too emotional when the call comes in today to be coherent.  I want to thank all the veteran moms for their words of encouragement and wisdom during this part of the journey.  I also want to thank all the members of this group for being the best group of loving, God-fearing moms/wives/GFs ever.  Thank you for the love and support that you have shown me and that your SR's (div 811) have shown my son.  I am overjoyed with emotion and know that when the call comes in, it will truly be one of the best calls (if not THE BEST call) I have ever gotten.  I have a few things packed but am going to finish -- hopefully before the call.  God bless each and every one of you and I look forward to seeing you either Thursday or Friday.... HOOYAH!  the next step of the journey starts Monday ... and where ever your SR goes, I wish them much success, protection and joy overflowing in the Lord.  God bless you and your families... Love each and every one of you.
