Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

N4M's Community Guidelines
and
OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Welcome to the newcomers!

For those who have not booked flights yet, consider booking on Southwest Airlines into either Milwaukee WI (45 min drive to GL, no traffic, cheaper car rental) or Chicago-Midway (hour+ drive to GL depending on traffic).  There is no change fee charged if your SR gets delayed in training, and 2 bags check for free.  My son was delayed in training when there....sadly, I didn't know about Southwest back then (2009) so had to pay the change fee for two people....luckily, the new flights dates were a cheaper fare so that made it like the change fee was cut in half, but still $89 more per ticket.  Sure wish I had known about Southwest back then!

Also, please read through the PAGES info to the right top of this page as well as scrolling back through these posts....lots of info in both places!

Good Morning!

Anna, I am so very sorry.  That is alot to handle.  Just know that once your sailor is in A School, communication with him is back!  Won't be long!

Comment by diannep on February 18, 2015 at 11:46am

Forever proud:  Supposedly that has changed now, no chit needed.  They are allowed in the Navy hotels only during PIR weekend.  If they stay for A School, they are not allowed in those hotels without a chit when families come to visit, etc.

Good Morning!

bonnielynne I have heard that the new graduates need a chit to be able to enter the base hotel, unlike off base hotels.

Thanks CatMom509, yes my Chiquita has written several letters lol, I think it's a partly from all the stress of the last year, my mom passed away after a long battle of cancer and I was her medical caregiver, so when she passed it was a sense of relief, now I am really feeling the loss of my parent and the inability to talk with my son is compounding the situation.  We also lost our family dog the day after Christmas...my SR...he's my "baby" I'm an emptynester now...From 6 to NONE!   Wow, it has been a tough year...I don't verbalize that much, thank you ladies for letting me get that out! Keep looking forward to Graduation...I'll have half my kids with me!! :-)
