N4M's Community Guidelines
and
OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Hey all,
Some of you asked if I would post the info from the PIR 4-3 NavyDEP Facebook group over here about the Reuben James ship-2.
Here it is....
///////////////////////

*** Time to meet the USS Reuben James – ship 2 ***
(Click "Continue Reading" for the whole story)

USS Reuben James – Ship 2

The barrack (ship) at RTC Great Lakes, USS Reuben James (ship-2), was named for the Oliver Hazard Perry-class frigate (FFG-57) and the boatswain’s mate, Reuben James, who distinguished himself fighting the Barbary pirates.  In 1804, Barbary pirates captured the American frigate USS Philadelphia after it ran aground in the pirate capital of Tripoli.  The Commanding Officer (CO) and crew, under the cover of darkness attempted to set the USS Philadelphia on fire so the pirates could not use her.

In close hand-to-hand combat, the pirates attempted to kill the CO. Reuben James, threw his hand before the pirates cleaving blade, and was willing to give his life in defense of his CO.  The CO and crew escaped.  Reuben James recovered from the wounds he incurred, and continued his career in the US Navy.  He died of declining health from past wounds on 3 Dec 1838. USS Reuben James (FFG-57) was commissioned on 3 March 1986, and is the 3rd Navy ship to bear the name.

Ship-2 (USS Reuben James) at RTC Great Lakes was the 13th barracks (ship) built.  It was commissioned June, 2010.

As said, the ship, USS Reuben James at RTC Great Lakes, is named only for the USS Reuben James FFG-57 (which was the third ship to bear the name USS Reuben James).  All ships (barracks) at RTC are named after actual Navy ships.  Those actually Navy ships are named after places or people.

However, since I enjoy Navy trivia, I’ll add:

The 1st ship named USS Reuben James, was a destroyer DD-245.  In October 1921 USS Reuben James escorted USS Olympic (C-6) across the Atlantic bringing the American Unknown Soldier for reburial at Arlington National Cemetery. This WWI soldier was the first Unknown to be buried at Arlington.

Years later, while we were at war with Germany during WW2, and while escorting another convoy, at about 5:25am, October 31, 1941, USS Reuben James DD-245 was torpedoed by German Submarine U-552. She had positioned herself between an ammunition ship in the convoy and the known position of a German U-Boat Wolfpack. Her magazine exploded and she sank quickly. Of the crew, 44 survived and 115 died. All officers including the Commanding Officer were lost. USS Reuben James (DD-245) was the first U.S. Navy ship lost during World War II.

Good Morning!

To add to CatMom's post about the FB groups, there have been times that wrong info has been circulated on FB, but if the info had been shared here too, we could have corrected it.  For instance, BattleStations dates sometimes get very mixed up....so like CatMom said,l please stay on both groups!

Gals,

Be sure to stay on Navy for Moms too, even though you are on Facebook.  Many of the moms/loved ones here don't join both and we would love to be privy to info coming through and shared by both.  Thank you~~
