OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Cor, I don't know if it varies from ship to ship, but it is always better safe than sorry.

CONGRATULATIONS on all your new Sailors!!  Safe travels for everyone!!  Have an awesome PIR weekend!!!

For PIR weekend your sailors are basically given phase two liberty, although they must remain in uniform. They can leave base, but can only leave on the buddy system, and PIR weekend family is their buddy.

On Friday the buddy system is "ignored", and you don't have to check them out or in (this could be different for them). You will meet them at the main gate.

On Sat and Sun morning when they are told they have liberty they will come to the main gate to meet you, and you have to go back to their ship and sign them out. They cannot leave base until you sign them out (other than to meet you at the gate. In the evening when they return to base you must sign them back into their ship. The same person who signs them out in the morning must be the same to sign them back in at night.

Your sailors cannot be late returning, they run the risk of losing the rest of their liberty that weekend. Plan on getting them back early enough to walk back with them to their ship to sign them in. Don't plan on driving them back it may not happen. This is a picture off google not classified.  :)

What is circled in red is the main gate, visitors center and the parking lot where you park to wait for your sailor. Their ships are the buildings in the right side center and top. You can see it is a long way to walk if you can't drive.

Thanks Ellen0502.  Can you update me again on the "checking him out" process?  thank you for being so helpful

Comment by ellen0502 on April 4, 2013 at 1:03am

gksailormom, You will not be able to get a "visitors gate pass" for the TSC side, but do keep your parking pass from the RTC side. On Friday evening when it is time for him to go back to base, drive up to the gate, he can ask if you will be allowed to drive him back., your pass from PIR may help at this point.

You will not be able to drive on to base without your SR in the car with you, so he will have to meet you at the gate every morning and then you may be able to drive him back. Driving on and off base is entirely up to those at the gate shack (it may also depend on which ship he is in).

Everyone in the car must have an ID (ok not babies), but they can, may and probably will ask for ID from everyone, and your SR must be with you in the car.  Also, make sure the one taking him back at night is the same one who checked him out!!

Packed and heading out early. So looking forward to Meet and Greet. The perfect beginning to a fantastic weekend. He said he misses us so much and can hardly wait until Friday!  Safe travels to all...
