Misty from MN: Hmmmmm.....funny that the photo lab said that N4Moms is not a site that the Navy encourages....because the Navy started the site! Yep, back in March 2008. As a place for moms/ladies to get support! What they say is that they don't want people on here to take our info as always "fact" since we are not officially Navy personnel. We all know that...we try to pass along as accurate of info as we can on here. That is why we N4Moms veterans are always asking recent PIR attendees to update us on info, etc.
So...I'm telling you all to please come back on here and post after your PIR. Share your experiences and let us know if our info was correct or if any has changed! After all, the Navy's middle name is "change!"
Anyone with a 927, took lots of pics at the 5/11 PIR.. look for your SR!

@Diana/Texas... Thank you for the title.. lol... I just think that if I want to know something I go find the answer and if I am questioning something then someone else may be questioning it too.. When I called to get more info from the photo center on base about details of payment they stated that N4M's was not a site that the Navy encouraged as it didn't always have the correct info. I wanted to say to them that if you talk to any person in general you may not get correct information.. I don't want ANYONE to tell anyone of us on the website to think that N4M's is not helpful because if you are a parent/spouse or anything other they can't talk about what we have experenced or gone through... Thank you again for all the people that imput info on this site as it and you are all special and have guided someone even when you didn't know it... Huggs to you all!! and so looking forward to meeting you... Please bump me and say hey... are you Misty from Minnesota... I look forward to it...
Congratulations to all of you and your new sailors! you. You will have a great weekend and it will be filled with many memories. Prayers for safe travels!
Congrats to all of the new sailors and safe travel for those leaving today!
Excellent post, Ellen. I totally agree. My son was a bit of a class clown in his "civilian" life...so bootcamp was pretty abrupt for him. He was very different on PIR Day..same concerns as your son had. Petrified of being late back to base after liberty...he made us take him back 45 minutes early (it takes a while to walk to their ships...and they are warned what will happen if they are late! Retention at RTC is one of the threats). When my older son's GPS took us to a restaurant that was closed that night, my sailor even was willing to give up his dinner to avoid being late. Thankfully, he didn't have to do that since we found another place rather quickly.
Once they arrive at A School, they relax a bit. It is more like a college atmosphere, although much more structured, of course. But not like bootcamp. They finally feel more in control of their lives. And you are in communication with them again! HOOYAH!
Just let your new sailor call the shots on choice of activities during liberty. Some are so tired they just want to nap. Others want to get out and about. My son was content to have lunch at Cracker Barrel and then just to ride in the car exploring the area. We even ended up in a school pickup line....both of my sons were quite embarrassed that I somehow managed that...especially when I couldn't get out of it right away! I have to say...after all of the times my boys have "embarrassed " me in some of their "tasks" in life...this was sweet revenge! HA! Gave me a great laugh!
So...have plans...but be flexible. But most importantly, enjoy!
Misty from MN, I have to applaud you, the ladies on Ship 11 Div 156 were very fortunate to have you keeping us all updated with the information you provided to each of us each day. You are our cheerleader!!! I am looking forward to meeting you at the Meet and Greet!
FYI for you all. This one comes from my experience and others too.
You SR may be extremely tired when you get to see them, although they will still want to "do", my son seemed like a zombie at first (not my word I stole it from someone else) :). Don't be surprised if they fall asleep in the car or just sitting down for a few minutes. They have been eight weeks or more on little to no sleep, and then the sleep they get can be not very restful. They are fine though and will probably still want to do everything they can while they are off base. :)
My son was also very leery about everything he did etc almost paranoid, he was always concerned that he was going to do something wrong and someone would find out. Watchful eye on everyone around him just looking for that one officer that may be out there in civies. This seems to happen with many of the new sailors on there first venture out. They are told that even though they are off base there are people out there watching them, that's all of them not them individually.
They have been watched all the time and closely for the last eight or more weeks and have been called out on not only their goofs, but everyone elses too. Reassure them that they are fine and remind them if they forget something like cover (hat) off indoors and cover on outdoors.
You may not experience this with your sailor, but if I hadn't had the heads up myself it would have made my heart hurt to see and watch him that first day off base. They are OK though!
It only took that first day out for my son to relax a lot so don't worry you're loved one is still in there just give him/her a few hours to break out of that BC feeling, It never really goes away though it just eases up, which it is suppose to do.
Thanks everyone for all the support and kind words and encourgment during these last 8 weeks.. Wouldn't been able to do it without you! Look out GL because here comes some AMAZZING MOMMA'S....
Congrats new sailor families--Bravo Zulu! Next step PIR on Friday!!!
