OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

The Weather Widget is interactive. Click the green dot on the top bar and drag it along the to change the time. Click LIVE to go back to current time. Click on the days to change to that day or expand out to six days.

definitely praying for that family.  i just printed out directions from midway airport to waukeegan & holy cow....by their transit system (orange line bus & metra train) they say it's a three hour trip!  yikes!  anyone else flying into midway & renting a car that could give us a ride?  ;)  we'll shuck out some $ for gas?

Poor krisnc everybody will get you caught up sorry you didn't find this wonderful group earlier I am so thankful to have been on here from the start these ladies on here are the best I feel good going to PIR knowing all that I do because of Navy For Moms:)

krisnc- Sarge has a M&G every Thursday for the current PIR group, there's lots of people there not just N4M folks ...he had tons of great information and will go over the shuttle service he offers and after the slide show, you'll have a chance to sign-up for a shuttle. Your right, you won't need to print a gate pass if you take a shuttle. I'd print one and take it with you just encase you change your mind on drive to PIR. I was glad we changed our mind and drove to PIR, that way when our sailor was ready to go we were able to go straight to the restaurant for lunch...

ugh!  sorry!  y'all are going to wish i didn't find you!  ;)  what's the coin you are talking about?  i saw the ribbon comments & i am on that.  couldn't find a navy mom shirt anywhere...now...a coin?  thanks in advance for help!

Comment by krisnc (ship 4 div 197) on May 29, 2013 at 9:29am

hello....i get confused with all of the different places i'm supposed to post/shouldn't post, etc.  i sent sarge a personal email as he suggested, but i haven't heard back from him.  i hope to meet you all at the m & g, however, i feel like i "newbie", y'all all know each other & i just got here!  ;)  also, i assume we don't need a car pass if we don't have a car?  i think our hotel has a shuttle to the base.  does anyone have any suggestions to tell the shuttle guy?  i'm sure i will ask more questions!  8 days & a wake up!

Comment by NH4Navy(Ship 9 Div 215) on May 29, 2013 at 8:41am

Wow...9 more days.  Just printed my gate pass.  I am not on as often as I would like, but I love reading everyone's comments.  Looking forward to putting a person with the photo, clip art, pet photo etc. :)
