~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.
~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.
~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.
~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

mrb,
Which hotel are you staying in? If it's one of the ones in Waukegan, it will probably have a shuttle you can take to PIR for $3 each person each way. Your Sailor will be able to ride back free with you to your hotel. Sarge's cell phone is 847-212-0246, so you can call him to make arrangements for him to pick you up since you can't be at the Meet & Greet to sign up. Just let him know your situation. My Sailor daughter appreciated the short time to relax at our hotel a bit before we went out to get something to eat (we also had a rental car.) Then when we came back, she took a long relaxing shower and lounged around in the comfy clothes we brought for her.
On this Memorial Day,
"Greater love has no one than this,
than to lay down one's life for his friends."
John 15:13
What I found at PIR is that there are so many people that just don't know a lot of the information that moms are sharing on here. Out of 700 or more sailors grad, there' what 115 of you on this group and some that are on a facebook group too. But many more that are not. They don't know about M&G, driving tips, when to get there, where to sit, what to do at liberty call, what and when to bring items to new sailors, going to the airport, tips on hotels, where to eat and what to do with the new sailors and more.....you have so much more information to really enjoy the PIR and liberty time with your sailors and it's almost PIR time for this group.
Good morning diannep; we won't be able to go to the meet and greet as we don't land until 9pm. Any info you have would be greatly appreciated! We've rented a car so will probably drive, unless the hotel we're staying in has a shuttle. Will find out about that! Thanks!
ambi: The quickest way for the sailors at A School and duty station to "fail" an inspection is to forget to lock something up, even if just leaving the room for a minute. My son's roommate at his duty station walked down the hall to use the bathroom and forgot to lock something up. He failed inspection for that...they want the sailors to know that it only takes a second to be "relieved" of their possessions. On a ship, one female sailor had her "wet" towel stolen from her rack....YUCK! They have to wait for their clothes when washing/drying or they "develop legs and walk off." It is a shame that theft is such a problem in the military, but it is part of this world we are in. So they try to instill this in the SRs/sailors very early on.
Ladies: Sarge will have an immense amount of info for you at his MeetandGreet, including "hints" for PIR....how to avoid traffic, etc. So if you can get there, please do He even has a way to avoid the line of cars heading into PIR! I know what that is in case anyone on here cannot get to his MeetandGreet. I would be happy to share that info! :-)
Kimberly I believe they have a handicapped area, or maybe each division section has a place. Call the Public Affairs Office tomorrow and ask them about that.

Diannep: What about people with motorized scooters?
oh...nice base....one of my favorite places..go there twice a year! Great seafood, beach weather without humidity, huge world know aquarium, great scuba diving (need a wetsuit)...if you can you should visit there..
