N4M's Community Guidelines

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

67firebird,

It just depends, but the "I'm a Sailor" call is generally longer and your new Sailor may be out of it and tired or super excited and energetic.  Maybe ask if he knows which airport he will be flying out of and the time of his flight?  Maybe get an idea of what he wants to do after PIR??  What kind of food?

How much time do we get when we get the call? What should i ask him?

Hi everyone, just got a long letter from my SR, I'm at work so his brother called me and read the letter to me over the phone. He is super busy passed all test up to this week and received a ribbon for sharp shooting he will wear at PIR. Said the RTC's spoke to him a little about after PIR, should be able to spend time with us after 11am and back to ship between 7-8pm and he's flight to CT he doesn't know yet. Sounds good he's happy a lot is happening before PIR it makes the time go by faster. WOW! on cloud 9.

This PIR group starts BattleStations tonight!  Can't post the divisions participating here, or on FB,(not allowed to publicly post until after the fact) but will be allowed to post in the morning re: which ones went through.  The rest will wait until next week.  Good luck to them!  For anyone who hasn't done so already, be sure to read the BattleStations discussion in the Forum above for more general info.

Good info, Hootsmom.  Sad that the Honor Recruit families have such poor visibility from their special section!  Sitting in the division section is a great idea.  We actually sat halfway up in the floor bleachers and could see well.  However, our sailor is a bit vertically-challenged, wasn't in the front, and we didn't spot him during the ceremony....sigh.  Maybe being in the balcony would have allowed that?  Checking out different seating early is advisable for all....so getting there early is a MUST!

NavyforMoms comes through again with great advice, found this post from 2013 too, hope it's helpful:

We had a wonderful PIR 4/26, and it was so exciting to see our son as an Honor Grad. We went to Sarge's and we followed all the advice, but want to help parents of these grads in the future. I would not have missed the opportunity to see our SR for almost an hour before graduation and take pictures with him getting his award, but the trade is missing reserving a good seat for the PIR. They do reserve seats for us right next to the reviewing stand, but the reviewing stand is up high and blocks all vision of the divisions entering the room. The only time we saw our SR was when his division marched in front of us. We also could not see him get his handshake at Honor Grad time, except on the screen against the back room. We also could not take a picture from where we were.

At the pre-reception brief, the officer who briefed us asked that nobody stand up and take pictures of their SR so that others were not blocked. QUESS WHAT? Parents are excited, and they all stand up.

If it is allowed, since you will likely get there at 6:30, go into PIR hall and save your seats with jackets or cushions. Your SR division sign will be posted where they will be standing so that you know where to sit. . Do like Sarge says and get a seat in front of your SR Div up in the balcony looking down. Unless you know for sure that your SR is in the front row, you won't see him very well from the floor.

Then go back in for the honor grad reception and awards at 7:00. They will escort you into PIR when it is time. Once you are in the PIR hall, go to your saved seats in the balcony. HOWEVER ... if your SR is an award winner, you must sit in the reserved seating because award winners are escorted to a special reception after PIR for cake with the admiral and other reviewing guests. Honor grads are not included in that.

The divisions enter PIR in numerical order from least to highest. After they march around in a circle, they will be lined up with lowest Number Div to left and highest number Div to right. For our PIR, there were 11 divisions, and our SR was to the far left as one of the first DIV to enter the room. We could not see around the review podium. The last DIV (highest number div) to enter the room was to the right and we could have seen an SR Div down to right of the review podium. Nevertheless, the honor grad presentation and handshake out in front of the podium was very difficult to see no matter what your SR div is. You will have no problem seeing from the balcony.

oh and more pictures have been posted at RTC facebook page, if you see your recruit at least try to post ship/div, always a challenge. Can anyone explain why some are in a solid blue uniform and others camo? Just curious.
