OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines
and
OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

When I spoke to my SR, I asked him how it was going and he said "it's boot camp ". I laughed inside knowing what he was talking about. Everything they go through has a purpose. It's makes them strong so when stuff happens they learn to stay calm and handle it. It's gotto be hard for the young ones just leaving the nest. But I can assure you they will be ok and stronger than ever. :)

Subhunter I'm sorry your SR is feeling a bit down. I can relate to how he is feeling. I went to a police academy and had to spend 6 months. I had also left my baby boy of 2 ups behind. For the first Three weeks I just wanted to go home. Then something clicked and I thought about how I was doing it all for my family. So I'm sure your SR will have the same thoughts once he gets the hang of things. Sending prayers your way. :)Dana

Subhunter- Am so sorry that your call was not a good one.  I have no great words of wisdom to offer - just my thoughts and prayers for you and you SR.

My phone call from SR was not a good one. Hopefully we got him back on track. I wasn't worried till I got the phone call. Now I am terrified. Lots of mail headed his way though. I put a call out to my old Navy buddies to send him encouragement.

67firebird,

Have you booked your hotel yet??  That's the first thing you should do.  Call them direct and ask for the Navy graduation rate.  No deposit necessary.  Recommended by past Navy Moms are the Navy Lodge (no Navy graduation rate as they alreadu have fantastic set rates--book under your SR's name), Residence Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Springhill Suites, and Courtyard Marriot.  These last 4 are all in the Waukegan/Gurnee area only 10 mins from RTC~~
