For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Comment by ellen0502 on May 2, 2015 at 11:09pm: Natalie, Your son was kept busy while in p hold. They study, clean etc. It sounds as though his p hold time wasn't too long though, just a couple of days or so, that is quite normal.

My son is Ship 13 DIV 213. He departed on 4/16, so I am disappointed that PIR is not 6/12 for him. One extra week seems like torture for me! He was able to call today - but we missed it. I have listened to his voicemail message again and again. He did reach his girlfriend - am so relieved that he was able to speak to someone (just really wish it was ME!) He told his GF that boot camp officially started for him just a few days ago. Does anybody out there know what he's been doing with all of those additional processing days? I hate not knowing what's been going on with him. Cannot wait to get a personal letter!

To answer the mail question, the mail is held from them for about 2 weeks after arrival. And, yes, then they are given that mail usually on a Sunday, after their first letters to you have been collected/then mailed on Monday. Sooo.....fingers crossed that next week, letters from your SRs will be in your mailboxes! If not then, it would be the following week.

After this initial mail delivery, they then will receive mail M-F, but can only mail out on Mondays.

Chetta: I agree with ellen....no Liberty before PIR weekend. Sometimes the RDCs may "mess with them" a little with info, and other times a SR may misunderstand. That is what we are here for! All of us have sailors who have been through this process and we can help with many questions!

Also, in case anyone hears that their then-sailors will be at the MeetandGreet the night before PIR, that is incorrect too. Sometimes the recruiters pass on this info, because a long time ago, there WAS a Family Night held for both sailors and families the night before PIR. But that has been discontinued.....so although you will be able to meet other families who have sailors with yours at this MeetandGreet, you will not be seeing your sailors yet.... :-( but a few hours later, you will see them at PIR!

Comment by coolaunt on May 2, 2015 at 5:44pm: my nephew is Ship 4 division 217 I think this Sunday (tomorrow) is the first time they can write home, last Sunday was not a considered a Holiday. This Sunday they will have a few hours to do personal things and they can squeeze a little time to write letters, I don't think it is mail day... hopefully lemonelephant or someone can let us know.

Welcome to Navy for Moms!!

My Sailor Daughter's PIR was March 2013--can't believe how fast time has flown!. She is an IT3 (Information Systems Technician, Petty Officer Third Class). I primarily provide scriptural encouragement for the PIR groups, Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) and a few of the other groups that I am a member of. I'll also help out with anything that I am familiar with--all kinds of tidbits I learned during my daughter's Boot Camp experience~~ This site really made the time go much faster. I'm so thankful that my Sailor daughter sent me the link for this awesome group of friends when she enlisted!! Count 9 Fridays and before you know it, you'll be seeing your baby again at PIR!! Here we go!!!

There is no liberty before PIR weekend, and PIR weekend they are not allowed anywhere outside a 50 mile radius of RTC. Even after BattleStations is completed your recruits are not considered Sailors until PIR.

He can request leave to go home prior to heading to his first duty station, after his schooling is finished.
