For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Comment by Abby on May 19, 2013 at 6:12pm: OK I give up lol! I've spent about 20 minutes looking for information about booking rooms at the navy lodge and can't find it. Does anyone know if you HAVE to book it under your SR's name? It seems like I read that somewhere, but now I can't find it. My SR's family just booked a couple of rooms under their own name and I was wondering if they should cancel it and rebook it under my SR's name. Thanks!

The exception to the rule is the day you are expecting the "I AM A SAILOR" call, then cancel any plans you may have made, and make sure you are wearing comfortable clothes. Find a place that has good phone reception, a place to keep your phone charged and make sure the ringer is on and volume turned up. Put a cooler in front of you with enough food and beverage to last about six hours, taking your phone with you for potty breaks. Have the TV remote next to you and the questions you need to ask your SAILOR, and put a sign on your front door that says you are only answering it if it is someone from Publishers Clearing House with a check. :)

He said that his aunt followed through on what I suggested about writing to SRs who don't have anyone to write them, and that the SRs that read them were excited and wanted to write her back. Yay! And, yes, it's a lot of work, but you're right, SOOOOOO worth it!
