Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Comment by linda1963 on May 15, 2013 at 10:22pm: today was the BEST day ever!! I got both a 30 min. call AND my first real letter!!! It was mailed on Monday and I got it today.....2 day from Ill. to Wa State!!! Very proud Mama!!!

Comment by SoProud on May 15, 2013 at 8:35pm: I hope all moms and wives get mail this week! I'm in Arizona and it only takes two days for the mail to get here. I received 3 letters today, the first time. They made me laugh, cry and extremely proud. My boy is doing really good, adjusting to his new way of life very well. He said the first week was very rough but it's getting easier every day. He really likes his RDC and his division is doing great.

Comment by CO-TwinSalorsMom on May 15, 2013 at 6:55pm: Could they be sending and calling someone else like a mom or Dad? I've only gotten one letter so far, tomorrow should be the day to get one. I got an average on one a week last time. I think they are given time on Sundays to write.
