N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Enjoyed a pretty long call from my SR today (Ship 02, Div 932). He sounds good and is doing well!!! He even had time to talk to Dad, brother and sister. Said he hadn't gotten any of our letters yet, and hadn't had an opportunity to write to us but its all good. Loved hearing his voice! He sounds strong!

I advise making your own personalized questionary not a form one, look at it for ideas though.

Michelle yes our daughter is only 6. I thought that maybe that was why she wasn't listed. I'm going to call tomorrow as well. I'm trying to figure out what I need to do about signing up for dental and upgrading to Tricare Prime. So many questions.. I'll get it together soon.
Comment by CO-TwinSalorsMom on May 12, 2013 at 11:04pm
The questionary I made up. I think there is one you can copy to send but I thought it was more fun and personal to make me own. You make up questions and ask your recruit to fill it out and return it. We roared laughing at his answers. Questions like estimate how many in the division snore. Best experience. Biggest mistake so far. How do you like the food. How are the grounds. Steve's answer was we never have been outside. (He was there in Nov and Dec. we had about 15-20 questions for him.

Yes, they should be covered, they just won't get an ID card until 10 or so.

Amberw27(ship 03 DIV 233) My husband filled out paper for our kids b4 he left for bc. on the DEERs paper work that I received said that kids under ten years don't need an ID. My kids are 5yr and 4months so I don't know if their age have to with why they are not on it. But I do believe that they will be covered by DEER.
Comment by Amberw27 on May 12, 2013 at 10:14pm
I haven't received my DEERS paper work. Seeing so many of you saying your children aren't covered makes me wonder. I also have two children with my SR and hope they are covered. Did your recriutes take care of the paper work on your kids before he left for bc? Or did your SR take care of all that when he got to bc? I am wondering if that may be some reasoning behind it. Thanks ladies.

Karen I'm so sorry you missed your call! I talked to my son briefly yesterday, but I could tell he was nervous about the amount of time he had. It did my heart good to hear his voice. He has been sick with upper respiratory stuff though. Hoping you all had a nice Mother's Day!
