For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

I never saw any pics of my son at BC either, several of his division, but not of him. When he came home for stand down we looked at the FB pics and he said "There I am". He showed me several pictures that he was in, of course they were his right leg, left hand, top of his head etc...LOL Graduation from A School there was a great picture of him finally, and an unexpected bonus picture.

Yep, that is his chin. You never know you might be looking at your SR, you may not see his/her face, but you may get a glimpse of a leg...or a chin.

Comment by diannep on May 8, 2013 at 11:23am: trags8: What division is he in? It is possible the the division was moved to another "ship" (barracks). But...he didn't mention that in the letter? If this is the case, the mail being sent to the form letter address will be forwarded to him at his new ship. I would continue to write to the form letter address for now, but I would write asking in your next letter if this is the new address. Usually the SRs tell their families if they have changed ships.

Your other choice is to call the PAO and ask them if Ship?/Div? is now in Ship?. 847 688 2405

But personally, I would write to the form letter address and wait for his answer about the new address. He'll get all of your letters!

I'm a bit confused - I received my first letter from my recruit, and it has a completely different ship # and address on it from the form letter. I've sent letters every day to the old address - will he get those, and should I start writing him at the address on his letter? I'm sure I know the answer, but just need some verification. THANKS!!

My husband didn't say if they would be able to or not. My sister washed my phone in the washing machine by accident and i'm freaking out thinking I might miss a call. i'm 5-7days out for a replacement :(
