For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Comment by diannep on May 7, 2013 at 5:11pm: MaryElizabeth: You can start that discussion above now. Just hit "Add a Discussion" and add it to the group! Other ladies can then add to it as they have made their travel reservations and you all can "buddy up" to share transportation from the airports.

You can call it something like: Who Wants to Share Transportation from the Airports?

Then make sure to put a little paragraph in there, when you are setting up the group, asking that they post the airport they are arriving at (there are 2 Chicago airports and some will fly into Milwaukee too), date/time, and how many in their group. This has worked in the previous PIR groups and many ladies were so happy to save money by sharing the cab, and making new friends! :-)

Most stay at least 2 nights--Thursday and Friday--if their new Sailor will be flying out on Saturday. If their Sailor is having A school in Great Lakes, then they will stay Saturday night and probably Sunday too since Sailors at Great Lakes get more liberty.

Sarge's prices from Chicago O' Hare in March 2013 was $99 round trip and the ride to PIR was free. The thing you would have to figure out is if your Sailor leaves out of Midway, then you would have to pay for a taxi to there and back too. So really, a car rental was the most economical way to get around when you factor in the 2 airports and getting around during liberty. My Sailor daughter wanted a fresh fruit smoothie and to get her eyebrows done, which were side trips that we needed a car for.

Please do not start new Division Discussions.

Discussion Forum Area

This is the place to start a Discussion about a topic and for your Division Discussions.

The Discussion Forum area is set to show titles only and is set at ten titles at a time for now. (This can be adjusted by the group creator or an administrator)

It is also set to show the "latest activity"(there are other settings). So whatever has just had a reply added to it will "bump" that Discussion to the top. The discussion will stay up there at the top because it has had "activity"…until the next Discussion has activity. If there are over ten discussions, whatever is at the bottom will disappear from view…but not from the Discussion Forum. So, if you want to see more, click "view all" at the bottom right hand corner of the discussion forum area. It is right up there above the Blue Comment Wall bar.

To "bump" up a discussion to the first spot of the DF area when you don't really want to add a reply...in other words someone is looking for it...just type whatever you want in the reply box and click "add reply". I just type one letter or even a period and add the reply.

When you view a DF by clicking on the title, the first post ever made will be the first one on the first page. To get to the most current reply, click “Last Reply” directly underneath that particular Discussion.

~You will also notice that in the top right corner in any post that you do you will see an "x". This is so you may delete your post if you need too. You will also see the “x” on any post you make anywhere else on the site.

We have posted your Division Discussions up above. Please use them to get to know each other even better on a "Divisional" basis...BUT remember that you all have the same PIR date and many of you will be attending the same Meet and Greets...so please continue to post on the Main Wall here...you all have developed such a nice group!

Also, please continue to post your questions for us "veteran moms" on the Main Wall here. We have 7-8 active PIR groups going at one time..that's 70-80 Divisions! We try to get to the Division Discussions but with that many it is difficult! We don't want to miss any questions as ALL are important...no dumb ones...for many of you this is your first servicemember and we want to be there to help and lend support.

I believe if you take his cab from the airport, he doesn't charge to take you to PIR...but not sure on that. Go to the website I posted for "Karen" below and you can contact Sarge from there if you want to know his rates, etc. Using his cabs would be the best route for you!

Comment by diannep on May 7, 2013 at 1:54pm: MaryElizabeth: Once FTLW opens the Discussion Forum which will be up top, you may want to start a discussion there so others can post what airport they are flying into, the date/time of arrival, and how many in their group to see who can "pair up" with others to share Sarge's cab service. His is cheaper than a regular cab service, and he/his drivers will give you lots of great info on the way. The more who can share his cab, the cheaper it is for all!
