N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Ship 03 is the USS Hopper, Co-Twin--same ship my daughter was on!!  It was the 2nd ship named after a woman, Admiral Grace Hopper, a military computer pioneer!!

CO-TwinSailorsMom & imomxfour,

It would be fun to see the differences in experiences between your 1st and 2nd SRs, especially since imomxfour has a son and daughter to compare!  Will the divisions pull together faster or slower?  We already know CO'Twins' son's opinion of the sucky food, lol!  Will they want to write mom more or less and what do they write about?  We already know God seems to give us opposites in our kids (1 will like peanut butter, and 1 won't care for it), the Navy adventure would be an interesting place to see how our kids differ in their experiences!  Looking forward to the sharing~~

Tiffani,

Sarge had suggested to search for airfares on www.Kayak.com where you can search several other airfare search engines like Expedia, Priceline, etc.  I found they all pretty much had the same fares.  The fares are supposed to change on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, but the only changes I saw were price increases! At least one mom on one of the other groups got a great rate of $159, but mine always stayed at $389 or so (from California to Chicago O'Hare on Delta). You need to keep track of the fares on a notepad and compare the fares flying into O'Hare (ORD), Midway (MID?), or Milwaukee  (MKE) from a couple of airports by you to see the differences.  I also checked out driving on Mapquest where they have a fuel estimator and you put in the type of car you will be using to see the projected fuel cost vs. paying for 2 or 3 roundtrip airfares.

On car rentals, just go on each of the major car rental online sites and they will give you the projected prices for the type of vehicle you are considering and you can usually book the reservation..  I have a coupon code for an upgrade on Enterprise Rent-a-Car #ALRUP10.  You will need to call 1 866-502-1257 to book and use the code as the online site doesn't take the code for some reason.  It is an Allstate Motor Club code.  I was able to use my debit card to hold the reservation.  I didn't have any problems and they didn't charge a deposit.  Ask if they have an IPASS to rent too to drive on the toll roads there.  There are quite a few there and if you don't want to pull over into the toll areas and have change all the time, the IPASS is the way to go.  Enterprise charged $6.95 per day to rent that.

Happy Hunting!

Dianne, its good to be back and see all the familiar names here, too!!! Guess what? Our sailor boy is coming home for leave to visit over Memorial weekend!!! We are SO excited because we have not seen him since he flew to Pensacola on Feb 2nd. 2+ months more of A Scool and then who knows how long he'll be on hold there before getting his first duty station we've heard it's 1-2 months for IT. At least he'll still be there when our daughter gets there - heck, if all things lined up right, they could end up home at the same time since her school is so much shorter!! I can dream...

CO-twinsailorsmom, how awesome to meet another mom going through this a second time as well - and our timing is SO similar too, with our 1st sailors!! I am still a little in disbelief that this is happening again so soon, and of all our kids, our daughter was the last one we ever expected this from!! ;-) but our son's PIR was life changing for her, and she went full speed ahead with it when we got home. How old are your kids and what are their rates?

Our daughter is almost 24 going in for AD, and our sailor in A school for IT will be 19 next month. we have a 16 yr old who plans to join the Navy, as well. 2 down, 1 to go!!! At least our 21 yr old son still lives here and always will, thank goodness. He teases that he'll get extra spoiled now, ha!!

I got my call from my husband today too! I was/am beyond excited! It felt so good to hear his voice. He said he was doing great just sore. He is SHIP 3 DIV 233 :) any one have any advice on plane tickets? I have never had to book one before. And also car rentals? I just don't know where to start so I can start planning this trip.

I saw that TwinSailorsMom, but what has me confused (sometimes easy to do) as a PUSH, is the start date for training of May 3rd that someone posted.

Anyhoo...Make sure you ask them to tell you what week/day they are on when they write to you.

Before my husband left he was really worried about me since I felt so in the dark about everything, like I had so many questions about BC and beyond. I'm so glad I was able to tell him on the phone today that I found this amazing website where all of my questions are answered and with such a great support network! Thank you so much everyone! I truly feel blessed!

Ellen0502. My son is div. 233 and he is in a push division. Said they sat around week one, but will still PIR on 6/21. So his training will be a week short. They combined with those that left 4/29. Who will also train one week short. Luckily he said they work well together .
